Hello and good morning to all in this most famous quality forum.
We are entering into aftermarket for our GM product. Does GM require KCDS monitoring in the aftermarket phase or only series production?
Thank you for fast response, Roger.

AAG? Ain't acronyms grand?
Just a reminder to folks that when using acronyms, you may get better response if you also spell out the term you are looking for. This keeps others from having to research the acronym before they can jump in and give you an answer.
Welcome to the Cove, Roger, we hope that you will find all the answers you need as well as help everyone else with your expertise!:bigwave:

I'm guessing at Key Characteristic Designation System.
Unfortunately my knowledge fizzles out fairly rapidly thereafter.

No problem! it is a learning curve we all have to go through. I still manage to throw stuff in thinking "everyone knows". The nice thing is that here we all try to work together, some places you would just be ignored.:mg:

Can I get some clarification please? Aftermarket is the term generally used for products that are not made by or for the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). They are sold as a "generic" equivalent to OEM products, may not be made to OEM specs, and generally have no relationship with the OEM auto manufacturer. Service Parts are parts that are manufactured by or for the OEM and are considered "official" replacement parts. Do you mean service parts?
I'm guessing that you're talking about service parts. The GM customer specific requirements document doesn't make any distinction between volume production and service parts. It states that the requirements apply to both production and service part organizations. The KCDS is required for both, per GM 1805 QN (for parts prior to 2009 MY).
I don't have a copy of GM 1805 QN right now, but if there is any exclusion made, it would have to be in that document.

Thank you, I think I got it now and I know what's required for service and after market parts. :agree1:
