View Full Version : How many Quality Objectives do you have?
Colpart 7th September 2008, 11:46 AM I was working with a company recently (not conducting an audit on them I hasten to add) and when I looked at the quality objectives, they had set themselves 19 in total.
I realise that it is going to be a variable depending on the organisation type, but I felt that 19 was a lot to set, measure and report upon. It got me wondering how many people normally set - so how any do you have?
Esthyl 8th September 2008, 05:48 AM My co. is small, we just have 4, 2 for each quality policy; yet, it takes time for gathering info, analysing and improving them. I think 19 is really a big no., are 19 objectives delegated to few dept? However, it will be great for the co. if all can be well monitored and improved! :D
Coury Ferguson 8th September 2008, 07:05 AM Our company has 320+ people and we have only 2 Business Objectives. However, each of the Department Manager needs to establish their objectives on how they are going to meet the Business Objectives.
yodon 8th September 2008, 03:06 PM We are a company of about 20 people and we have 8. More than I wanted but they are quite simple to measure so not a lot of overhead.
shawnann 12th September 2008, 12:19 PM We have approximately 50 people for one company and about 15 for the other company and we have 2 quality objectives for each company (they are the same objectives).
mboucher 12th September 2008, 12:25 PM I work for an international tool manufacture, with a facility in German and one in the U.S., and we have 10 objectives that both facilities work on.

howste 12th September 2008, 12:46 PM 19? Wow. When you try to concentrate on everything, you focus on nothing... :bonk:
When I'm working with clients, generally we end up with around 6. The number of process metrics associated with them will vary greatly depending on the size of the organization and the processes they have.
ralphsulser 12th September 2008, 12:51 PM We track quality objectives monthly and chart the results compared to target.
Example Items:
OEE each operation,
Scrap targets,
Customer satisfaction ratings
chaosweary 12th September 2008, 02:01 PM We have had our ISO9001 cert since 1994. Our two quality objectives of reducing scrap, increasing yield, and improving on time delivery have never changed.
dcorbett 12th September 2008, 03:23 PM We are a Branch of a large Corporation with 40 employees. Locally we have 4 Objectives that are focused and driven by Customer satisfaction and delivery performance. At the Corporate level there are eight with a broader scope of maintaining the QMS and ISO Certification as well as customer satisfaction/service, delivery performance and overall quality.

No. of objectives does not matter at all unless otherwise u a good system to control it and u see the effectiveness really.. or else we can prioritize the objectives and replace it one bye one once we achieved..
In my company, we have a guideline of 2 objectives minimum for each business line or department or process area to identify in line with the quality policy. we are not demanding objectives from the process areas where they dont have any major contribution to the business goals and quality policy..
ramvaidhya 13th September 2008, 09:33 AM We had 6 quality objective one MNC - US based automotive which found fine to capture and report data and discuss for improvement with senior management. Another company relative small but had 14 quality objective. This company not only find difficult to track objective, the quality of information was very diluted and serve no purpose. Simply drag the time of management in MRM.:agree1:
Arun B Chopra 13th September 2008, 09:58 AM we are a company which provides services and we have five objectives and the se are linked to objectives for all identified processes and are monitored process wise to gain the maximum outputs for the organization , normally it is seen that when the company has more than five or six objectives nothing is doen and the defined ob jectives are not strech target objectives which leave the organisation with practically no gains in creating all the data associated with the monitoring of the same.
