This is, obviously, not a Poll thread.

Assuming you visit at least somewhat regularly, Why do you come back to visit the Elsmar Cove forum?

I visit the Cove because I am addicted to it. :D

I visit again and again for technical information - to provide answers to various queries, moderate forums and in turn learn new things myself.

I visit because the site has lots of useful information and tips. It's a minefield of information that i can sit and go through at my own place:)

As well as a place where I feel I have some friends around the world, I like the opportunity to share opinions and hear other people's points of view on subjects. I also get up to date information on topics such as updated standards and I like to think that I can offer support to others who are not as experienced in creating and implementing management systems.

I like the Cove because it´s the first virtual place that I´ve found that´s not a "Give me ...Give me..." or "can someone send me a copy...". The discussions are fantastic, the input, the knowledge, the sharing of experiences and information are the best I´ve found !

Congrats on the initiative and the Mods for keeping the Cove going ! :applause:

I regularly visit due to the vast experience & helpfulness of many of the members here - I try to add my own value as well - but the forum has been of no end of help to me and there are many other conversations I've seen that have widened my "quality horizons" beyond my current field (medical devices).

Also the coffee break section does have some thought provoking threads & a good few laughs as well for when I'm ready to hang to rope from the rafters in the office! :bonk:

In addition to opinions already given, The Cove is great place to road test your ideas/opinions/systems/processes etc. Also it is a source of comfort and re-assurance, coz it's a lonely place out there....

I joined a long time ago and spent some regular time here; even contributed $$$ long ago (sorry Marc but I will again) then I got really busy and only came back once in a while. But recently I have found my bearings and have returned (to some disappointment I am sure) but seriously: I find this a great source of information, helpful insight, and generally very good conversations. I tell many of my friends and counterparts in quality about this site and invite them to join to see the wealth of information here and to contribute to the discussions.

I enjoy discussing things with people and I have taken advantage of the blog a few times. This has to be a tremendous job controlling and monitoring all of this and the big cheese and the other moderators have done an outstanding job!

If you can't find an answer to your question here at the Cove then you won't find it anywhere...:bigwave:...people are generous with their assistance and tolerant of people not wanting to do their own work...looking for a free-be form or procedure is one disappointing aspect but it does maybe get people interested in returning.

I am also a PC gamer and use Teamspeak and my own website to talk with people all over the world; there is nothing better than meeting people with common interests (at least professionally) and getting to know a bit about them and differing opinions on topics. This site offers much more to people than just technical information and templates or files; it offers a chance to participate in a global community; discussing anything and everything (within reason)…

I keep coming back because of the topics, the people, and the conversations...

Other than that; Marc might just hunt me down and I can't have that...:sarcasm:

When I have questions, someone usually has some answers or at least a direction to follow.

I feel a common bond.

I learn something every day, and hope that I can help people too.

I like all y'all.

This forum is an amazing place for changing idees. There are a lot of professional and very altruist people. Every time when I am here I got some new information or I read another valuable point of about an interesting subject. Now I have a more complex imagine about quality and I’m sure that also in the future I will learn a lot from this forum. I’d like to thanks to everybody who share their opinion here. I like to thanks also to the new people who keep asking questions because so I thing about different themes and I read different opinion about this.
I wish you all the best!

My reasons:

The Cove does provide a break from the drudgery of making charts. The occasional shift of thinking does help in my producitivity, and while waiting for computer processing.

The Cove has exposed me to other uses of statistics than what I deal with on a day to day basis, and on some occassions I've been able to better deal with an emerging situation on the job due to I've thought it through previously in a discussion here

The folks using the Cove are an interesting bunch, and good to bounce ideas off of

Officially, I've got the Cove acknowledged by our company lawyers as a "professional development" activity.

Sharing information, brain storming, proposal of no ending solutions, fast responding, no ''win win'' deal, every one compete to help once a question is proposed, and you ask why I wanna come back ...
And the most is that I like to just give information and see people using them as this prove my concept which is ''information is already there..you just found it, so...share it with others''

I really have to say ..Thx Mods ! I appreciate your 24/7 works to make the Cove goes on like that:agree:

Officially, I've got the Cove acknowledged by our company lawyers as a "professional development" activity.Interesting. I know this has been discussed in the distant past in some old threads. At one time someone here wanted to try to get the ASQ to recognize activity here for CEUs if I remember correctly. Of course, nothing ever came of it because there's no way to make a measurable.

At one time someone here wanted to try to get the ASQ to recognize activity here for CEUs if I remember correctly. Of course, nothing ever came of it because there's no way to make a measurable.

That would be me.

Even without the credit, it is without a doubt a good way to spend some time. When I first came here I learned a LOT about the application of quality theories on a day to day basis. I am still learning here, pretty much every day.

Something that I find fascinating is that there are many people who come here and post from all around the world. The sun never sets on the Cove. A lot of these people do not speak English as a first language, and I am sure several have to try very hard to communicate, but communicate they do. While the subtle differences between cultures is interesting, even more interesting is how much Q Pros around the world have in common. That is one of the Cove's strengths, and it is just one of the reasons I enjoy coming here.

There are a few other active threads about the humor threads, controversy, etc. I think the informal tone of the forum makes people comfortable, and encourages participation. That is one of the Cove's biggest assets.

Just :2cents:

If you want to see how not to thread, look at the "discussions" in wikipedia under some of the quality concepts. Sure, we get a little passionate here, but they shred input just because of its level of spell check or grammar. C'mon...that's just attitude, not passion. Pitiful. I hope we don't "jump the shark" and get like that here...well, not too much.

I would say that this is by far the best discussion forum I've come across. While I do visit forums on other sites I do not find any that add as much to my knowledge base as the discussions here. While we may not all agree or like to hear the blunt speak of others regarding our ideas it is helpful to discuss our thoughts in a judgement free environment. Also, the capability to do a simple search for topics or files is a huge help.

Thanks,

Harold

This is the best quality source of teamwork in the whole, wide world, with the best people we can learn from and contribute what we can to help each other. Throughout my entire career starting in 1967, quality has been looked at as a necessary evil to comply with customer requirements. This takes quality to a higher level and top management have starting to see the benefits. Plus, the best people in the world participate here too. Marc's "people helping people"
Sorry if this sounds corny, but that's they way I see it.:D

Pretty much all of the above. I come here to help out & contribute, I also come to participate in discussions and debates & find out what people are currently thinking about, wrestling with or having difficulties with. And I like the contact with other quality professionals in (almost) real time.

In writing, talking thinking and listening, there's an opportunity to think more and there's always something else to learn or consider. For example, one extended discussion with someone whose opinion was poles apart from mine, it actually caused me to have an ah hah! moment and clarify my own thinking and point of view about a particular topic.

I came in search of examples of Process Maps and news on ISO Standards.

Honestly I browse now as a break at work (about the only forum that is not blocked at my work place). I normally just checked the recent replies on the front page and read through anything of interest. I'm always interested in process mapping threads and like seeing new ideas in that field.

Also its good to get a perspective on American issues for certain things although typically there are other forums I prefer to use for most social interests.

I found this website quite by accident (I'm a web dork, not a web geek) but I've seen so much good info, and a strong spirit of sharing that I can't wait until I have something to offer to the mix. I've got 32 years in Quality (Aerospace), and now I am RA/QA Mgr in the Med Dev manufacturing field. The folks here have been doing this for a long time, so sharing even the smallest bit of info seems to be too much of a bother, so it doesn't happen very often.

I can read about things that I need to know, and see how others are doing this. Like I said, someday I'll be able to add something.

Thank-you for this forum! :agree1:

keep from "reinventing the wheel"
