Does anyone know why "9000"?
Was it previously assigned in some greater numbering scheme?
Just curious if anyone knows or knows where to get the answer.

Its part of the greater number scheme at ISO. Take a look at the website when you have a minute, Lots of interesting 'stuff'. http//www.iso.ch/
