Post Revision History - Edited Posts

This is something which only Moderators can see, but so that people know that any revision to a post is recorded I am placing this here.

When a post is edited, a Reason is asked for. A Reason has to be put in. The software will not stop you from leaving out a reason (unfortunately), but we all have agreed it is the proper thing to do.

When a post has been edited, you will see something like this:

Notice the clickable link. NOTE: Only Moderators will have a clickable link. To all others the reason for editing will appear, but not everyone has permissions to see post revision histories.

If you click the link, you will see something like this:

Click the versions you want to compare and you will see something like this:

If you do NOT see any changes noted, the Moderator listed in the edit probably hit the 'Edit' post button by mistake and simply didn't make any changes. Or, a Moderator may make an edit but forgets to change the reason for the edit (such as when a post has already been edited at least once). So the Moderator goes back and changes the reason for editing, but since the post body isn't changed no change(s) will show.

I just edited a post of my own to correct a typo, and I got the clickable link. Is it that the link will appear for moderators and the person who posted, but no one else?

Jim,

I think that only the OP and a Moderator would be able to use that link. But, Marc will be able to answer this better than I

I haven't posted and then edited the post with a test account to know. I have looked through with a test account to see that, as I posted above, only moderators will have a link (everyone else will see the notice but there won't be a link).

Jim, if you see a link on a post you edited, click it and let us know what you see.

It makes sense that the OP would be able to see the revision history. Interesting.

Yup - That pretty well confirms it.

Oh - For new people here, OP = Original Poster.

Since a poster can edit his/her own post, it would stand to reason that they could see the revision history.

Marc, thank you for putting this information here. I appreciate it.
