View Full Version : Software to automate the completion of FAA documents 8130-9 or -3 automation

I am trying to automate the completion (filling out) of our required FAA docs (8130-3 and -9). I have heard that there are software solutions being used but can find no tangible evidence. Do any of you have any experience with the automated approach or are you still doing it by hand as most folks are? Many thanks. -PHANTOM

We use an (MS) Access database to produce our 8130-3 tags. It is a home grown system that just about anyone with some Access training/experience could put together for you. We still do our 8130-9 tags “by hand” and our repair station still completes the return to service tags the old fashioned way.

Badgerman,
Many thanks for your reply. But, if I may, I would like to ask you a question about your application for the -3 creation. I have ample software experience to do our implemetation of the same, but it would help me greatly to know if you are populating the -3 as a word doc, or is it a "homegrown form" perhaps in a excel spreadsheet but following the FAA form requirements. Also, and this may be asking a lot, but can I get a copy of whatever form (template) your using - of course, I will write the back-end code to fill out the form. To have some background and an example of what is working successfully for other conformity groups would be a big leg-up. I'm trying to take the shortest path between two points since I am not being paid to write software but rather get my confomity work done and my products shipped. I just happen to have the most software experience in my group and now the monkey is on my back. Again. Thank You. PHANTOM

From the production enviroment there are application in SAP and MAPICs that can handle the generation of the 8130-3 and 8100-1 forms including signatures. It is a real life saver!
For conformities most have been nothing more than manual systems that I have used. There are typicaly just not that many being processed at any time. The only "automated" system I have used is the Boeing system but they have to still process the manual forms in order to get our signatures on them.
Here ia a word version of the -3. I have a excell version some where if you need it.

The -3 form that we produce is a "report" within an Access database. We have formatted it to look exactly like the suggested 8130-3 form.

BADGERMAN,

Would it be possible to get a copy of the -3 report format you use? I really don't want to re-invent the wheel if I don't have to and I don't have a lot of time to spend on this project. If convenient, could you send me a blank ACCESS with the -3 report included? Many Thanks, PHANTOM

I am sorry but I cannot send you that information for several reasons. It is fairly proprietary, it has embedded security based on network usernames, I am not the administrator, and lastly because our e-mail security settings will not allow me to e-mail an executable attachment. As I said, anyone with some basic Access knowledge can create a program for you.
