I am working for a unit making automobile parts. We are planning to implement TS16949.

Could any body guide me on following
1) Simple steps to start with implementation of SPC. Could any body provide me somme simple .xls tools or free softwares to use for SPC on daily basis to control process parameters.

2) Approach to begin implementation of stat techniques. Criteria to select the parameters to bring under SPC

3) Is it necessary all parameters to pass with Cpk value above 1.67. When we did some sample studies on few process monitoring parameters the Cpk value was found to be like 0.30, 0.65, 0.43, 0.78, 0.89 etc etc. How to interpret this in order to accepat the process.

You are welcome to make use of the materials for SPC that I have posted to the Internet from our use at Fluor and the US Department of Energy. http://www.hanford.gov/rl/?page=1144&parent=169 and 18 hours of training materials at http://www.hanford.gov/rl/?page=1156&parent=1144.

I simply use standard Excel spreadsheet and do my own formulae. I think that a better answer than some "black box" software that you don't know what it is doing, what assumptions it is making, and can't override it to do what you need done.

Good luck!

Some software that is not free but is very inexpensive is QI Macros. It includes many different types of control charts as well as other quality tools. You basically enter your data into Excel, then use drop-downs to tell it what you want. I think it's about $139, and you can download a 30-day trial version.

Shenoy,

I agree with Duke, and QI Micros is great and I use it.

To me it is the state of the ARK for complete six sigma.
Also for what you are asking here is teo excel files that you can use to.

For fast down and dirty these are fast and you can use several different
checks at once.

I also use QI Micros, unless I am using the charts for precision machining. Then I use X hi/lo-R chart in Excel, because QI Micros does not have that charting methodology.
