View Full Version : Tolerance Stacking or Tolerance Chart - Checking manufacturing print tolerances

Hi everyone!

Sorry I haven't been around for a while. Been very busy, lately. I hope everyone is doing well.

My question:

If a manufacturing print is done in the GD&T format and a tolerance chart is also provided, should I be checking tolerances on a part by developing a tolerance stack with the information provided on the FCF or just go with what is on the tolerance chart or a combination of both? In this scenario, there is no clarifying information on the print in the notes section.

Thanks in advance! :)

Can you share that print with us? Or at least a portion of it?

If that's not possible in this public forum, PM or email me and I'll take a look at.

If you mean the tolerance chart that is typically displayed near the title block, these are default tolerances that apply to an untoleranced dimension.

In the case of a basic dimension with a GD&T call out, the GD&T Feature Control Frame is the tolerance. Therefore the default tolerance does not apply. Do the tolerance stack using the FCF.

...a tolerance chart is also provided, ...
Is this tolerance chart a separate document - or is it on the print? Does it state anywhere "unless otherwise specified"?
