View Full Version : Introduction to ANS/ISO/IEC 17025 and Z540

I am putting this here rather than the training board as this applies primarily to laboratories that are seeking accreditation, want to offer some of their Staff a familiarization to ANS/ISO/IEC 17025, and/or are seeking to learn about ANSI/NCSL Z540.3-2006 and how it interacts with ANS/ISO/IEC 17025:2005.

I will be teaching the one-day tutorial at Measurement Science Conference (MSC) on Tuesday, March 24, 2009.

The workshop is number T-03, and the title is Accreditation: Challenges and Solutions.

In the workshop I can not just go through the Standards and let you know the requirements but also share some ways to meet the requirements without killing yourself in the process.

For calibration labs in particular who may be highly curious or apprehensive about the requirements of ANSI/NCSL Z540.3-2006 Clause 5.3, I will also go over those requirements. Here is my plug so forgive me this much, IAS is the only accrediting body actively including Z540.3 in assessments currently.

I look forward to meeting anyone from the Cove who attends. I will also make myself available after the tutorial for questions that are not raised or answered during the tutorial.

The agenda is below:

What accreditation is and is not
The Quality Management System (QMS)
Management review and internal audit
Personnel qualification
Records and confidentiality
Computer systems and software
Subcontracting and purchasing
Complaints
Corrective and preventive action
Reporting calibration results
The Scope of Accreditation
Measurement uncertainty (MU)
Traceability
Proficiency testing/Inter-lab comparisons
ANSI/NCSL Z540.3-2006
Marketing the accredited laboratory
General guidelines for selecting the accrediting body (AB)

Oops, forgot the MSC website. MSC is a non-profit organization in spite of the .com address.

You can put this on the forum Calendar (http://elsmar.com/Forums/calendar.php) if you want to.
