View Full Version : Adhesive longevity tests - Glued silicone used in a shower to bond glass panels

Hi,
I want to test a glued silicone that is used in a shower to bond glass panel together. It's performing really good under load cycling, max load and a bunch of other tests. My problem is that I'm not sure how it'll perform over time. How can I simulate repeated use in a shower (temperature and humidity).

Thanks

I had to do high temperature/high humidity testing, but could not afford an oven designed for that (although they make them). I used a regular recirculating oven, placed the parts on a metal rack, put water under the rack, put aluminum foil over it and - voilą- 100% humidity at high temperature (thank you vapor pressure!) Now, all you have to do is come up with a flexing mechanism that can either work in the oven, or can be driven via the air intake or exhaust on an air recirculating oven.

Or...go large and send it to a lab that has the environmental oven for a tensile tester. :smokin:
