Usually a scale (or balance) is supplied with a certificate to demonstrate its accuracy - this calibration is performed by an external source.

This certificate would be renewed periodically - just another part of the calibration schedule.

It's a good idea however to buy a set of in house calibrated weights. You can use these weights each day at the beginning of the shift and record the results.
The in house routine checks can give you the assurance that the balance is accurate for use.

This is how we approach the issue of routine balance measurement accuracy.

Ramesh,

Your post got a little off track because of a terminology issue. The measuring device you are refererring to is called a "Rule." On a rule we observe the "scales." In your case the 1 mm and likely the 0.5 divisions and numbers. When you just use the term "scale", people interpret that as a weighing device. Because this is an international forum, being more specific will help to get an appropriate response.

Stijloor.

Hey, don't forget the uncertainty.....and remember, trace width is a serious Type B contribution here.....
