View Full Version : Needs clarification on tensile test on SS class F 431 material as per ASTM A 473

I wanted to know as per ASTM A 473 for SS Class F 431 material when heat treated in H condition {Oil quenched from 1850°F to 1950°F (1010°C to 1065°C) and tempered at not more than 700°F (9370°C)} what is value of % elongation when tested on sample drawn in transverse direction. In standard it has given only for longitudinal direction. Is it necessary to have % elongation checked in transverse direction. If so what should be its value for acceptance? This material being used to manufacture Thrust & Radial bearings. What are all the other application of this material?

I have not received any reply for my posted question. I feel information given is insufficient. So here with I am giving some more inputs of tests taken on samples as attachment.

You may want to bump this thread next monday as things are slow here over the weekend.

Hopefully someone will be able to help out. It is beyond my expertise, so sorry I can't help.
