View Full Version : Method for Dew Point and Oil content - Qualifying our Compressed Air System (CAS)

We are in the process of qualifying our Compressed Air System (CAS).

I am in need of the method for testing "Dew Point".

Also after qualifying CAS (once the qualification is successful), we have planned to monitor the air quality once in 6 months (Parameters are : Dew point, Oil content and Microbiology)

Is there any guideline requirement mentioned that these are all the parameters has to be monitored routinely with certain frequency?

We prefer to get this test outsourced and is acceptable by most auditors.

We are also planning to outsource this test.

If that test method is available we shall share it with the Outsourced party, to know whether they are capable to conduct the test.

Test method is required to arrive an agreement between our company and Outsourced party on this test.

Refer ISO 8573 that is exclusively on Compressed Air. There are 9 parts to it as follows :

Part 1 - Contaminants and Purity classes
Part 2 - Test methods for aerosol oil content
Part 3 - Test methods for the measurement of humidity
Part 4 - Test methods for solid particle content
Part 5 - Determination of oil vapor and organic solvent content.
Part 6 - Test methods for gaseous contaminant content
Part 7 - Test method for viable microbiological contaminant content
Part 8 - Test methods for solid particle content by mass concentration
Part 9 - Test methods for liquid water content

In addition, there are some more ISO stndards for Compressed Air. Refer HERE (http://www.iso.org/iso/search.htm?qt=compressed+air&published=on&active_tab=standards)

Thanks. Got the standard.

One more clarification is needed.

Qualification of Compressed Air System is completed by outsourcing the tests with “X’

Due to some reasons it is not possible to continue with “X”.

During routine monitoring of air quality, new outsourcing source for testing is identified say “Y”.

It is identified during discussion that the method used by “X” and “Y” are different for dew point and oil content check.

Now can we proceed with the Y’s method for routine monitoring even though the method during qualification is different.

Note:

1. Acceptance criteria remain same for both the methods (method only differs)
2. Y is also ready to give in there letter head that, they are following ISO 8573 method.

Yes you can use both sets of data.

Providing they used traceable standards and documented methods, and you have copies of the calibration certification for all the test equipment that was used.

Maybe I am mentioning obvious things, but do remember that these tests only constitute the performance validation. You must have the IQ and OQ in place before commencing PQ.

If you search on the internet for - IQ/OQ/PQ protocols - you will find several sources.
