View Full Version : Outsourced Material - Customer who is asking us for a level 3 PPAP

The material we supply to our customer is processed by someone else and sent to us. We then send it to our customer who is asking us for a level 3 PPAP. How, or can we supply the necessary paperwork to our customer?

Thank in advance for your help.

If you are not carrying out any production process on the product , you are only repacking and supplying to your customer you will not be able to prepare level III ppap for the product.Your customer may be aware of the situation. But as you are a customer to your supplier ask your supplier to prepare level III PPAP and the same can be shown to your customer.
In any case your customer is right in demanding a ppap as you are responsible for the quality of the product.

Is your customer aware of the nature of the supply chain? If not, you have a problem. If they are aware, you need to "flow down" the PPAP requirement to your supplier.

Dbulak,

I have not found any customers that will not accept this as follows:

1. Insure all PPAP requirements are given to your suppliers and there suppliers.

2. Have them prepare a level three PPAP with all documents.

3. Your facility review and either appove or disapprove it.

4. Create a Level Two PPAP, with Process Flow, control Plan, and PFMEA, on
how your facility, reviews and approves PPAP's from your suppliers.

5. Attach this to a copy of there Level Three PPAP, and state that the
orignal PPAP is on file at your facility.

6. I have been doing this for almost (30) years and not a problem.

7. This is also accepted when parts go throught a dist. center.

I'm in a similar scenario now but I am with the supplier of some distributor firm supplying to some other customer.
Is it a usual case where the customer indicated in the PPAP package is the end customer (distributor's customer)?
Or should I indicate the distributor's company and not the end user in the PPAP package?

Like I said, Pas all requirements to suppliers.
If not going directly to end customer, then do i as [I]
stated. make up a Warrant, PF, CP, PFMEA, as to handlew a pass through, and Then it is up to them to get it to end customer/

Unless otherwise specified, your PPAP should go to (and be in the name of) your customer--whomever it is that you invoice for the goods.

No, PPAP was started by the American automotive customers in the nineties.
Before that it was called ISR ( Initial Sample Report ) by most of the customers.
They wanted nearly the same things like front sheet ( now PSW ), measuring reports, Test reports, Material reports.
In the PPAP process the requirements have been extended to the present situation.

Best regards,

Antoine
