Hello.
At first, i must say that i'm new to 16949 and as you see this is my first message in Elsmar. I searched for this topic but i couldn't find. So i submit this thread. If i have a mistake please be patient. Thank you :)
I wonder, do we really have to use PPAP and 16949 = PPAP? I heard that Approval Processes change from customer to customer and if customer doesn't uses PPAP, we don't have to use PPAP. Is it true?

Welcome to the Cove and posting your first question.
The PPAP is flowed down via the Contract/Purchase Order from your customer. If it isn't required by your Customer, then I wouldn't see any reason to prepare/submit a PPAP as far as I understand.

Hi Kamui, welcome to the Cove. :bigwave:

The relevant requirement says:
7.3.6.3 Product approval process
The organization shall conform to a product and manufacturing process approval procedure recognized by the customer.
If your customer requires PPAP, then you must use PPAP. If they require something else, then that's what you must use.
Because many of the OEMs and Tier 1 customers require PPAP, and TS 16949 certified companies must flow the approval procedure to their suppliers, requirements for PPAP are very common. Whether or not you are required to use PPAP is a contract review question. What do your customers require?

Howste is absolutely correct! All calls regarding PPAP (including items to be submitted and maintained as well as submission levels) is the Customer's call. It's very important to understand exactly what your customer wants. If your customer does not require PPAP, you not have to do PPAP. Keep in mind howver that ISO/TS 16949:2002 has requirements that link with PPAP such as DFMEA and PFMEA, you must do FMEA regardless if the customer requires PPAP or not.

Thank you all for your quick replies. Some of our customers are small suppliers and they aren't capable to manage product approval process. They only use material and dimensional control reports. But they're asking for PPAP package, even they don't use PPAP. There is a misunderstanding of 16949 = PPAP = Sampling. So i try to find out what's going on. After your responses, i will be able to simplify our quality works. First i must found out which customer uses PPAP :)
Thanks again.
