OK... What do you think?? An improvement or not, folks? I have a lot more to do but I think everything is working OK for posting.

***
Please!!! Stop by and reset your profile and preferences. There are one heck of a lot of new options. It's the little button up near the top of the page that says "USER CP" There's even 'Private E-Mail' if you turn it on.

There's a 'Poll'. Rate what you think about how the forums are changing. Better? Worse? You don't care?

Great job!!!

Kudo's Marc and all - the site looks great!

After spending the first part of this week without the Cove I have really come to appreciate everything this place offers. I made a brief foray into the ISOGROUP bulletin board looking for some information on a topic I was researching. The animosity and personal attacks on that board is unbelievable. We have a difficult enough job being the advocates of quality and change without a barage of disparaging comments from our alleged peers. My appreciation for the Cove and its management has increased tremendously.

Thanks again for this site!!

Cheers!!!

Mike

Looks like this will work out "JUST PEACHEY" (as soon as I get myself up to date with all the added bells & whistles");)

Marc,

Looks great, feels comfortable. It is going to take a while to get use to all the new 'stuff' but it took me a while to get use to telephones without dials (does that qualify me as an official geezer).

Yes Rick, I believe it does! But hey, I can still remember BEING my folks tv remote control! So I'm not too far behind ya am I?

Marc, EXCELLENT JOB! :D

I still haven't checked out all the bells-n-whistles, but am looking forward to future exploring

Well, the 'Poll' looks good. I hope everyone likes the changes, and believe they will. This is a big part of what I've busted my ass over for the last month.

It's still 'bare bones', but at least it's up and working. I still have a lot of 'config' work to do.

As far as being a Geezer - I was born in 1950 - so I'm a 'dial' phone and Black&White TV kid myself. I remember the 'family fight with father' over buying a colour TV in (as I remember) the late 1950's or early 1960's. We really put the pressure on. I can rmember when he finally 'gave in' he used to play with the colour adjustments for about every different show and station (he was a tech geek to some degree). I even remember putting the TV antenna on the roof and what 'fun' it was.

Marc,

Looks good, I had to poke around for awhile before I decided that I could still learn (old dogs....) I think that it will be even easier to use now. One thing I noticed is that now when I post something, my lightbulbs don't all go on, so I can still tell where I'm at.

I'm easily confused, you see!

Thanks for all your hard work

 Well truth is the new set-up is much better that it was (faster too) .. Im getting used to-it.

"Even if" truth be told - I'm well on my way to geeezer hood - just a bit ahead of Marc -- We didn't even have a phone until after 2nd grade -- then we had one of those party line crank thinggies hanging on the wall & everyone in town knew "Betty the operator " worked out of the town doctors office !! (our number I can still remember was two longs & a short) :;)

Wow, a guy leaves for awhile and Marc goes and changes everything! Quite the shocker.

Change is good. The sight looks great and more functional. This is my first stop, so it's time to go exploring. Hope I don't get lost.

I was on vacation for two weeks and alot has happen in that time. This new format is taking a little getting use to but appears to be an improvement. Hope I can learn to use its many features.

By the way Marc thank you for having such a wonderful site. Of all the sites I have been to this is by far the best. How anybody can find the amount of time that you apparently apply to this site is beyond me. Do you sleep?

What is this word you use - sleep. Please explain. What does this word mean?

Marc, I just couldn't help myself. I have to add one more comment. This is so great, I can log in from home or work now without having two user names! Love it!

I was delighted to see Steel Maiden's post on logging in from home, so I had to try it. No problems. Great addition. No loss of identity. 6:45AM here and I'm in the Cove already. Hey, it's Saturday. See Ya!!

With the 'old' UltimateBB software, what used to happen when you tried to log in from different computers (such as one at home and one at work) using the same User Name and Password?

To me, comparatively, UltimateBB was a 1961 Volkswagon -- vBulletin is a Lincoln Navigator. It's that much easier to use and manage. I still have LOTS of configurations to do - this isn't as easy as UltimateBB was - but I believe the investment in time and money was/is well worth it.

I'm looking into the spell check module next week, but it's a pay service and I don't know the cost.

I will say this has been (and still is) a big learning experience for me. I'm finally completely on the new server, the board is working, and just about everything else is working - so far! The only drawback is that my old Host (Bluehill) were as_ho__s. The qs9000.com domain name may not be 'transferred' until sometime between today and next Tuesday and they ignored my request for an IP 'redirect' until the domain name actually changed.

Well, well, well..... I got busy for a few days, logged in a few times to check on progree, but haven't had a chance to "play." Looks great, Marc. I even used the calendar - minus the Year! 2 weeks ago I would have put in the year so I could have gotten alot of "Lordy, lordy looks who's forty" messages.....but too late for that! Nice feature.

Anyway - I'll keep browsing around. Summer's over....time to buckle down again and work on those projects I've been planning....

Thanks for the site Marc,

Laura

Marc,
Webster says sleep is "the natural periodic suspension of consciousness during which the powers of the body are restored".
Try it, you'll like it. I know I do.

Marc

Yeah! I remember now! Well, the main parts of this 'project' are almost finished. The last two weeks have been rather like a nightmare. I've completely moved everything to the new server. The new Forums software is installed and (I can hardly believe it) working! Even the import of all the threads from the old board I've 'fixed' most of the broken links in the pages. There are some messages and some threads imported from the 'old' forums that 'lost' their icon, but I think we can all live with that.

The last problem is that the qs9000.com domain name has not yet 'switched'. I was very lucky 16949.com did. Hopefully the QS9000.com domain switch will be today or tomorrow. Right now it won't connect you to anything. There are still a lot of people with bookmarks, search engine entries and site links to qs9000.com

I'll try some sleep REAL soon!

But then again, you've sorta already told us anyway.). You can change your profile and all sorts of stuff in your User CP. :p

I was brave - I did! I thought it was one of those sorta wierd 'features' of the registration. But - to be honest, when I purchased it I knew it had a calendar and such integrated but didn't pay attention to things like it announcing birthdays and showing them on the calendar. I really didn't even realize it had the inter-board mail feature, the buddy feature and all that. I guess I saw them, but I was mostly looking at speed, navigation, I liked the column that tells how many times a thread has been read (even if that number is 'fuzzy') and other stuff.

I just activated the avatar feature. You'll have to be brave and add yours!

I'm sorta surprised how many people are using the Avatars. I didn't expect them to be used by many people.

Energy - you're undoubtedly the champ.

I like 'em! :thedeal:

Marc,

The reasons I change them so often is because I'm an ugly "MOFO". I won't mention any names, but I even provided this service to some other members who either didn't like their pictures or figured out how to do it themselves. Hey folks, if you stand 50 feet back from the camera, nobody can see that you have to sneak up on a glass of water to get a drink. :biglaugh: :smokin:
