There is a new AEROSPACE Quality Management Standard out. AS9100-2001. The major aerospace companies are presently requiring AS9100. The new standard will be required by the end of 2003. AS9100-2001 is a combination of AS9100 and ISO9001-2000. I would be interested in how the quality community is planning on addressing manuals.

To my knowledge, compliance with the new version of AS 9100 won't be required until the end of 2003. Most opinions I have heard are for using a matrix to cross-reference to your current 20 element system/manual. However, I wonder if it would be easier/better in the long run (especially if you have 14001 aspirations too) to reorganize your system to follow the new 9K2K and AS 9100 outline.
We have a cross-reference matrix in our current manual to show relationships between ISO 9001 (1994) and ISO 14001 but we plan to certify to the prior twenty element version of AS 9100 in November.

What is confusing the issue is if you go to the SAE site to order at http://www.sae.org/iaqg/publications/standards.htm they reference the release date of August 2001 but still reference a basis in ISO 9001:1994, probably a typo.
I am personally waiting for the revision to AS 9101 to the ISO 9001:2000 for those clients that are upgrading from ISO 9001:2000. This revision to AS9101 is anticipated and in the works.
Looks like AIR5359A was revised in July 2001 as well.

F.Y.I.
I talked with SAE months ago about AS9100 Status and they called in August 3rd, when it was approved.
I obtained a copy of AS9100A: 2001.
They formatted the old requirements to ISO 9000:2000(P.D.C.A)
It includes ISO9000 W/ Aerospace requirement in bold.
SAE Customer Sales can Support Their Products!
I'm glad for the Change.

AS9100-2001 ends up as a combination of a Quality Management System and an inspection system. For a while the idea of an inspection sysem was condidered passe. However, where safety is concerned inspection cannot be replaced. In fact the combination should turn out to be a great idea.

Man, I wish I could help you on that one. I could only provide you with one (my employer) since we became certified last month to AS 9100, 1999. We were the first company that our registrar audited to the AS 9100 standard. My guess is that information would be limited due to the relatively small number of companies who are certified to date. Maybe someone else has some experience that they could share.

To top it off,
My Registar does not maintain a list yet and we passed the audit.
