Dear all

Could you please advise how to check the validity of the certificate scope during an external audit to ISO9001:2008.

For example if the scope of company is :
"Design and manufacturing of accessories for ambulances made in steel , stainless steel , alumium , wood , plyester , kevlar"

should i check records of manufacturing for all these type of accessories and records of design for all these types ?
Maybe they did not produce Kevlar accesories , how can i validate the scope without seeing records of all materilals?

Another example
"Training and Recruitment agency "
I checked processes and procedures . i found that there is a recruitment process , but no records and no one apply till now. it will be acceptable as scope? or i should see records of ppl recruited?

If you do not see evidence of some of the materials, ask the customer why it is in the scope. They may want to create a more general scope.

For the training and recruitment scope, look for their readiness to comply. Ask them questions and see if their answers correspond to the procedure.

The scope statement represents the processes and activities the quality management system applies to. If there is no evidence that they have ever implemented a process or activity of the scope, then it can't be claimed in that scope! This is not a 'we could do XX', it's a 'we do do XX'

Otherwise we'd all be claiming to be rocket scientists...........
