View Full Version : What epitaph do you want attributed to you? On your tombstone?
dQApprentice 19th June 2009, 01:00 PM what words would you like written in your epitaph... on your tombstone? have you ever thought about this for a moment? (a sobering thought, isn't it? )
one thing i know is that you may have purchased a life plan or a funeral plan, but your epitaph is not included in the package. some still has to compose your epitaph and the decision has to be made as to what words should be written on it.
sample actual funny epitaph from real tombstone:
In a Ribbesford, England cemetery:
Anna Wallace - The children of Israel wanted bread and the Lord sent them manna, Old clerk Wallace wanted a wife, and the Devil sent him Anna.
(Note:would you doubt why i suspect the husband why carefully supplied the words?)
what about you then? what words would you like to see place on your tombstone?
i think "$2,803,701.51 net after tax" wouldn't exactly be appealing.
perhaps the words, "walked with Christ and He touch lives" would be ideal.
so start working on it.
Marc 19th June 2009, 01:09 PM Moved thread to the Coffee Break forum.
Jennifer Kirley 19th June 2009, 01:23 PM I have been entertained by looking over some of the old epitaphs, very often from the Western U.S.
At this stage in my life and career I would say "Warning! Warning!" like the robot shouted in the old series Lost In Space. I have a keychain version (http://timespacetoys.stores.yahoo.net/loinspb9roel.html) of him at my desk. In stressful moments (there have been a run of them in the past couple of months) I press his head and get my stress relief.

Jim Wynne 19th June 2009, 01:46 PM I always like this one:

Stijloor 19th June 2009, 02:03 PM What does this mean? I played the attachment but I don't get it.:nope::notme:
This may explain it: Danger,_Will_Robinson
Stijloor.
dQApprentice 19th June 2009, 02:10 PM This may explain it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danger,_Will_Robinson).
Stijloor.
Thank you for the explanation.:agree1:
So what would you like to see on your epitaph?:tg:
bobdoering 19th June 2009, 02:17 PM What they will likely put on it is: "I bet you think this means you won't have to check those parts, anymore, huh?"
dQApprentice 19th June 2009, 02:29 PM What they will likely put on it is: "I bet you think this means you won't have to check those parts, anymore, huh?"
What part are you referring to?:bonk:
bobdoering 19th June 2009, 02:34 PM It's a general statement. Usually when a quality person "goes away", it is looked upon as an opportunity to conveniently forget doing things that the quality person advocated.
Marc 19th June 2009, 02:37 PM What they will likely put on it is: "I bet you think this means you won't have to check those parts, anymore, huh?"What part are you referring to?:bonk:
And it means the person will be dead and the epitaph will be "I bet you think this means you won't have to check those parts, anymore, huh?" - As if by dying he can get out of doing work.
Panchobook 19th June 2009, 02:41 PM "Save the flowers. (Tamales are ok.)"
dQApprentice 19th June 2009, 02:43 PM It means the person will be dead and the epitath will be "I bet you think this means you won't have to check those parts, anymore, huh?" - As if by dying he can get out of doing work.
Got it! :thanx:
sorry my mind is quite slow at the moment..:frust: it's past midnight here in the Philippines and my mind is starting it's daily shutdown :bonk:
Now it's your turn, what is your epitaph?
Colpart 19th June 2009, 02:45 PM Not on my tombstone but perhaps at the hospital - "look! he's still alive" :lmao:
SteelMaiden 19th June 2009, 02:47 PM I kind of wish I was a hair stylist....I'd love to have "We all knew she would curl up and dye"
Alas, What it will probably say is "Only the good die young" That way, it will be true no matter when I go. I just hope my kids won't put "Mama G" on my headstone. That is their favorite endearment, and how they introduce me to their friends.
AndyN 19th June 2009, 03:48 PM Personally speaking, I don't want to see anything on my epitaph... I don't believe in the after life.......
SteelMaiden 19th June 2009, 03:50 PM Personally speaking, I don't want to see anything on my epitaph... I don't believe in the after life.......
Always so literal!:lmao::lmao: Actually, there are a couple of people I would love to haunt.:notme:
Marc 19th June 2009, 04:10 PM Personally speaking, I don't want to see anything on my epitaph... I don't believe in the after life....... Your epitaph doesn't have to be carved in stone. I'm like you in my belief system. I am to be cremated with no service or anything prior. There may be some parties after it's all over ;)
He's Gone! (http://elsmar.com/pdf_files/audio-sound/The Witch is Dead.mp3)
Panchobook 19th June 2009, 05:38 PM What I'd really like to see on that slab:
"Unit successfully backed up. Restore upon availability of suitable hardware."
Hershal 19th June 2009, 10:29 PM "He made a difference."
arios 19th June 2009, 11:28 PM "This space for rent"
arios 20th June 2009, 02:46 AM What I'd really like to see on that slab:
"Unit successfully backed up. Restore upon availability of suitable hardware."
Pancho: You have good humor! :applause:
Sam4Quality 20th June 2009, 12:49 PM "Dig me out! I like the space next to Marilyn Monroe!"
Ciao.
Marc 20th June 2009, 01:09 PM I changed the thread title to clarify. An Epitaph is:
1: an inscription on or at a tomb or a grave in memory of the one buried there.
2: a brief statement commemorating or epitomizing a deceased person or something past.
That is, technically you don't put anything ON an epitaph. Just a nit picky language issue on my part... :notme:
dQApprentice 20th June 2009, 01:56 PM "This space for rent"
Are you a business man? You're already dead and your still thinking of how to gain more income. :lmao:

You want to be cremated? I suggest tell your love ones to gather all your ashes and spread them on the grounds of places they frequently visit. They will surely visit you all the time.
Thanks for clarifying the meaning of 'Epitaph'.
arios 20th June 2009, 06:56 PM Are you a business man? You're already dead and your still thinking of how to gain more income. :lmao:
I was thinking on how to take care of my widow
Chennaiite 21st June 2009, 01:42 AM what words would you like written in your epitaph... on your tombstone?

See You Soon
AndyN 21st June 2009, 06:17 PM The first time I read this I thought it said 'epithets'........:mg::notme:;):lmao:
bobdoering 22nd June 2009, 12:10 AM How about:
"Here I lie broken hearted. Tried to exercise, but never started."
:beerdive:
Raffy 22nd June 2009, 02:59 AM Woh! Sounds Weird :notme: ...anyway everybody will be going in this path, sooner or later. We just don't know who will be next.
How about: I still don't have any idea what I'm going to put, does it really matters, I'm dead, I could no longer read it...not unless If I would be reincarnate or resurrect...
raffy
Randy Stewart 22nd June 2009, 08:19 AM I don't want to take up any space, plus the money could be spent for better things. I get a free marker thanks to Uncle Sam and that's enough for me.
I guess if I had to have one it would say, "On Eternal Patrol".
smryan 22nd June 2009, 09:11 AM No tombstone here - ash scattering will be my preference. Epitaph to be said at the time of scattering would hopefully include sentiment regarding love for life, making a difference, and one final and ultimate recycling project. ;)
Claes Gefvenberg 22nd June 2009, 12:11 PM I am to be crematedLikewise. When I buy the farm, it will save my relatives the trouble of keeping it presentable.
Epitaph? I haven't really given it much thought, but how about: "He made the odd blunder, but who cares now that he is six feet under"?
/Claes
dQApprentice 23rd June 2009, 03:10 AM "What am I doing here outside while my body is inside the coffin?" Is no one going to answer me? Are you deaf or my voice was soft? People looked straight through me like I was not here except my puppy that wagged his tale a little. :magic:
Sorsola 23rd June 2009, 10:54 AM Here lies Samantha Jones
None the bloody wiser
SteelMaiden 23rd June 2009, 11:17 AM Here lies Samantha Jones

:lmao:, I could probably use that one also...If only my name was Samantha Jones.:notme:
palmer 25th June 2009, 12:54 PM I want to be cremated and my ashes spread over the Rocky Mountains.
(sigh)
If I was to have one it would say....
I should have taken the blue pill instead of the red pill....
:lmao: (hope I got those in the right position for you Matrix fans):read:
