This morning I went to the local post office where there is now a sign on the door that says "We Sell Stamps."

I bet if you look at the bottom right or bottom left corner, the sign will have a form number. Probably a revision number as well, so that when the new sign comes out (We Still Sell Stamps) the old ones can be properly identified and purged. A last ditch effort perhaps (http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/Extra/could-your-post-office-be-closing.aspx)? Stijloor. Jim Wynne 29th June 2009, 04:35 PM A last ditch effort perhaps (http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/Extra/could-your-post-office-be-closing.aspx)? Stijloor. Yes, perhaps they want to reach everyone who is unaware that stamps can be purchased at the post office. Of course, there's a good chance that those people won't be able to read the sign, so it could backfire. bobdoering 29th June 2009, 04:39 PM And, really, why would they even be in the vicinity of that sign if they needed stamps....:sarcasm: bobdoering 29th June 2009, 04:40 PM A last ditch effort perhaps (http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/Extra/could-your-post-office-be-closing.aspx)? From the same people that thought closing dealerships will sell more cars... "Mabel, I heading on into the big city to go to the post office...need anything while I am headin' there?" SteelMaiden 29th June 2009, 05:06 PM I just got a postcard from USPS. It said that they would be surveying the services for the next few weeks and we might notice that our mail does not get delivered at the same time we are used to, but the goal was for all mail to be delivered by 5 p.m. I sure hope that the next step isn't that there will no longer be mail box delivery, or that our post office will close completely.:mg: (the joys of rural life) Stijloor 29th June 2009, 05:38 PM I just got a postcard from USPS. It will eventually disappear. For those who still need/get mail..a central location for mail pick up will be downtown. :( Stijloor. bobdoering 29th June 2009, 05:38 PM I sure hope that the next step isn't that there will no longer be mail box delivery, or that our post office will close completely.:mg: (the joys of rural life) Or, worse yet, both. Have to head into the big city to go to the PO box to get your mail....only to have the trip yield the same old garbage (sans credit card offers.) Marc 29th June 2009, 10:59 PM I'd be a happy camper if they delivered mail 3 days a week. The 6 days a week thing is very wasteful. SteelMaiden 30th June 2009, 09:15 AM I wouldn't mind if they cut a day or two from the delivery schedule. (and why am I the only one still getting four and five credit card offers every week? They could stop those all together. Today, I ran into town on my way to work to drop off some outgoing mail. (my mailbox was vandalized a while back, I feel safer to take my mail to the big box outside the post office now) I put my letters in, and lo and behold, there they sat, balancing on the edge of the chute. I reached in to give them a shove, and the whole box was full right up past the throat of the chute. Now, I live in a sparsely populated area, and this box is right in front of the post office. How long does it take to fill up a regulation mail drop box for a town of 3000 souls? It must not have been emptied for a week. Do you suppose that this was part of their survey to see how long it takes to fill up the box to decide on a new pick-up schedule? As stated, it is directly outside the post office. Any employee could run out there and empty it in less than 2 minutes. good grief. Maybe I just need to replace my poor beat up mail box on the post at the end of my lane and go back to leaving my outgoing mail there. This does not bode well when even the post office doest get their mail picked up. In the next three months 10% of all post offices will be reviewed for possible closing. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/Extra/could-your-post-office-be-closing.aspx bobdoering 30th June 2009, 09:25 AM It's coming. SteelMaiden 30th June 2009, 09:29 AM I read that, I don't think that it applies so much to the small towns as to the burbs where there is another post office a couple of miles away, but I could be wrong. |
