View Full Version : I was drugged by my parents ddunn 13th July 2009, 10:48 AM I found this on the net and thought I would share with you all. CarolX 13th July 2009, 11:01 AM Thanks - that is a good one!!! somerqc 13th July 2009, 11:15 AM Yep - I still get shocked looks when I actually make my daughter pay the consequence of her actions (nothing physical - just removal of what she "wants"). I have a really good kid, but, when she does get out of line.....she knows that there is a "cost". She may not get to go to the zoo, or doesn't get to go to the park....or even doesn't get her bedtime story (she is only 4 1/2). I always hear...she doesn't understand. Male Bovine Excrement! (thanks Marc) She understands perfectly well. In fact, she understands so well that all I have to do is start counting (she is allowed a 3 count to correct behavior at 1st warning) and she usually stops. What we need is more kids to have respect for everything! Unfortunately, there are many adults that need more respect too (they were never taught this when younger). SteelMaiden 13th July 2009, 11:36 AM I guess I was drugged by my parents also.:lmao: Jim Wynne 13th July 2009, 11:45 AM I found this on the net and thought I would share with you all. Many of us actually were drugged by our parents, albeit unwittingly in many cases. Paregoric (AKA tincture of opium) was a common over-the-counter diarrhea remedy given to children for much of the 20th century. It was also used as a colic remedy in infants. AndyN 13th July 2009, 12:00 PM This wouldn't have happened in the UK! We don't say 'drugged' when we mean 'dragged', since the past tense of 'drag' is 'dragged' (well it is in British English)......:notme:;) ddunn 13th July 2009, 12:14 PM This wouldn't have happened in the UK! I was one colicky baby! Soon to be 38 years and my dad STILL reminds be about what I was like as a baby. Besides that - I was "drugged" throughout my teenage years as well (I will never forget getting caught coming home from the gf's place at 4:30am....nope...not even 20+ yrs can make me forget that incident) Jennifer Kirley 13th July 2009, 01:36 PM Many of us actually were drugged by our parents, albeit unwittingly in many cases. The first thing I thought of when I read the title of this thread was about when I was a child and had a tummy ache. My Granny would give me a spoonful of sugar with "Perry-garic" and everything would be magically better. And, if I had a cough there was good old honey, lemon, and whiskey. My family was either drunk or crazy or the best of both worlds, I never had a chance. At least, when I woke up in the drunk tank on a Sunday morning 22 years ago, I was able to make an honest assesment of my situation and move on. |
