View Full Version : Life is full of risks, do you take them? dQApprentice 29th July 2009, 10:30 AM "Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” -- Andre Gide Randy 29th July 2009, 12:45 PM For some folks going outside is too much of a risk:lol: Jim Wynne 29th July 2009, 12:46 PM For some folks going outside is too much of a risk:lol: Especially for the rest of us. She was driving with her knees, talking on a cell phone dangling from her rear view mirror, putting finger nail polish on, and continually turning around to shush her crying baby in the car seat in the second row of seats - all this at 40 miles an hour in a construction zone with trucks pulling in and out all along the highway. :topic:Heck! I almost spilled my coffee and dropped my bagel with lox when I saw her!:notme: Then I couldn't wait to call my wife and tell her what I saw.:bonk: Groo3 29th July 2009, 02:32 PM The lady I saw driving a Cadillac Escalade today was headed north - watch out, Jim! Or it may have been her sister cause instead of talking, she was texting :mg: Juan Dude 29th July 2009, 02:37 PM The lady I saw driving a Cadillac Escalade today was headed north - watch out, Jim! Here's one from a picture I have on my wall of a ship in a storm, "The sea is dangerous and its storms terrible. But these obstacles have never been sufficient reason to remain ashore...Unlike the mediocre, intrepid spirits seek victory over those things that seem impossible...It is with an iron weill they embark on the most daring of all endeavors...To meet the shadowy future without fear and conquer the unknown." ~Ferdinand Magellan Wayne Qualqueen 30th July 2009, 01:56 PM The lady I saw driving a Cadillac Escalade today was headed north - watch out, Jim! Those of you that read the College Football thread will know that we all love going to the games. For me, there isn't anything thing much better than being in Ann Arbor on a crisp (not cold) fall afternoon. The leaves are changing colors, there's a different color blue to the sky, the clouds look brighter, etc. That isn't much of a risk (only if Michigan is playing Toledo, App State, etc.) but you feel alive. As a whole, we want things to stay on an even keel. However, if you never feel the downs you can't really enjoy the ups. Real risks is making yourself vulnerable. Taking a step outside of your comfort zone, being in a situation that you don't control. That is risk. I love the victories and I love the disasters. The disaster is what makes the victories that much more sweet. A couple other posts sums it up for me My scars are evidence of some of the risks I've taken BECAUSE I REFUSE TO TIPTOE THRU LIFE ONLY TO ARRIVE SAFELY AT DEATH However, I still want to die in my sleep. Not kicking and screaming like the people in the back seat!:notme: palmer 31st July 2009, 01:33 PM As I've gotten older I don't take as many risks as I used to.... but I still take at a greater rate than those around me of the same age..... db 31st July 2009, 05:28 PM When my first wife was in the process of delivering our first child (in the transition stage -- i believe), she was generally complaining about all of my faults. At one point she stated: "It is all your fault, you made me fat and ugly." My response was": "I didn't make you ugly". I meant, she wasn't ugly, but of course, she took it the wrong way. Needless to say... I took a risk that day! :mg: Marc 31st July 2009, 05:31 PM Life, in and of its self, is a risk..... Central Park horror leaves Google engineer Blair-Goldensohn in coma A Google genius was in a coma Wednesday night after a rotting branch snapped off a tree in Central Park and smashed him in the head. Sasha Blair-Goldensohn was walking to work through the park when a 100-pound limb came crashing from a massive pin oak tree near W. 63rd St. The 33-year-old computer engineer and father of two was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center after the 8 a.m. accident and was in intensive care. "I'm not worried about Sasha because he has IQ to spare," uncle Marty Goldensohn told the Daily News while keeping vigil at the hospital Wednesday night. He said Blair-Goldensohn had been unconscious since the accident. Doctors performed a procedure to relieve swelling and put him on a ventilator to help him breathe because his lung was damaged by the branch. <snip> Read more....
