View Full Version : The end is here for my 13yr old beloved kitty
Crusader 31st July 2009, 05:48 PM :( Yesterday, I had to take my little guy in and have him put to rest. His bad heart and 2 tumors finally took his spunk away. He was beginning to suffer. His decline appeared suddenly and overnight - no warning. Yeah, I knew he was terminal for the last 6 years or so but his condition changed like turning on/off a light switch. Scooter was 13 years old. My purebred Himalayan with orange fur and matching orange eyes will be missed terribly but the memories I have will help me thru this difficult time. :)
I have photos of him here on photobucket:

Marc 31st July 2009, 05:50 PM Sorry to hear that. It's hard having to put a pet to sleep.

Yeah it is. He was my second "kitty child". I still have 3 other "kitty children" to fill the void. They're torn too - they keep looking for him. :(
Edit: Scooter was not the first, he was the second.
db 31st July 2009, 06:01 PM It is easy for me to say "it is just a cat", however....
I inherited my cat when my wife passed away. This cat has NEVER liked me. I think she was jealous when my wife showed attention to me. Since my wife's passing, the cat has warmed up to me (possibly because I am the only one who feeds her, cleans her litter box, and shows her any attention). However, she is 16 years old, and is beginning to fail. I really hate to admit it, but I know I will have a hard time having her put down. She really has been a good cat (despite the numerous claw marks on my ankles). And now, it almost seems she has become my best friend (i know, how can a MAN say such a thing?). You do get emotionally attached to your little friends.... umm... err.... pets.
My condolences to you, Crusader. Even with the other kids, I know there is still loss.
Jennifer Kirley 31st July 2009, 06:07 PM It's so hard to lose a dear friend. Love up your other "children" extra, and let the tears flow.
Crusader 31st July 2009, 06:08 PM You can get so attached to these little critters. They have their own separate distinct quirks, personalities, etc. They know when you're mad, sad, sick, etc. They are so much more than just pets. :)
Stijloor 31st July 2009, 06:11 PM Crusader,
Sorry for the loss of your pet. I can relate to this....:(
There are pets that are in need of a new home and much needed love.
Stijloor.

Agree 100%. That is where my other 3 came from - they are all "rescues".
BradM 31st July 2009, 06:52 PM Yeah it is. He was my first "child". I still have 3 other "children" to fill the void. They're torn too - they keep looking for him. :(
FWIW... I'm sorry, and I feel for you and the family.
We get awfully attached to our pets.
Crusader 31st July 2009, 07:17 PM I made an error. Scooter was my 2nd kitty. Spunky was first and he died at the tender age of 6 due to bad kidneys. Doc said he had the kidneys of an 18yr old cat. It was so long ago (1999). Spunky is shown in one of the photos with Scooter on my photobucket link in my first post.
Randy 31st July 2009, 09:55 PM Isn't it amazing how attached we get to our "friends"? When our last doggie got run over I thought I was going to have a heart attack and I know without a doubt if something happened to Lulu (the stinkin cat:lol: ) Judi would probably shut down.
Sorry to hear it Lee
Crusader 1st August 2009, 12:33 AM Thanks Randy. He was a pain in the rear-end at times but we loved him all the same. I mainly think about all the good/funny times and I'm dealing with the loss much easier.
Jennifer Kirley 1st August 2009, 09:19 AM I had my dobie mix Sheba put to sleep about 4 years ago and I miss her still. The memory I keep with me is her standing close and delivering one small lick on the tip of my nose.
dQApprentice 1st August 2009, 11:05 AM Poor kitty, you left your master :(
Jim Wynne 1st August 2009, 11:17 AM Thanks Randy. He was a pain in the rear-end at times but we loved him all the same. I mainly think about all the good/funny times and I'm dealing with the loss much easier.
I've gone through this twice in the last two years (a dog and a cat) and it sure ain't easy. Thinking about the good stuff, and there's lots of it, helps.
SteelMaiden 3rd August 2009, 12:14 PM So sorry for the loss of your beloved pet. They sure do take hold of your heart, don't they?
Crusader 3rd August 2009, 12:22 PM Yeah they sure do! We have not got used to setting out 1 less plate at feeding time. We did pickup the place mat where he ate though. We still open the door slowly from the garage into the house so not to bump him in the head...but he's not there to greet us. It's difficult letting go. Out of the 4 cats, he was the only one to greet us when we came home. We really miss that.
palmer 13th August 2009, 05:15 PM We are pet lovers and have 2 dogs and 6 cats. I had a cat who died a couple years ago that broke my heart when he died. An aunt called to tell us about him as a stray cause the lady up the street threw him out when she remarried because he didn't like cats. He was about 2 and a blonde/cream colored persian.
Hair was matted and tearing the skin. I cut it all out of him and nursed him back to health. If I was in the house he was ALWAYS near me for the next 12 years. He died of spinal cancer at 14. Tore my heart out. Buried him under a tree in the yard and put a casting of a lion at rest over him because he always reminded us a lion with a huge mane....sigh!
