Revised Standard
The latest revision of ISO/TS16949:2009 was released in English on 15 June 2009 to reflect the changes in ISO 9001:2008 only. According to IATF, other language versions will be forthcoming shortly.
Obtaining Copies of the Standard
Once issued, copies of the standards can be obtained from AIAG at http://www.aiag.org (http://www.elabs7.com/c.html?rtr=on&s=ay26,hj04,34m,ezfm,dmge,i0qk,joh6).
Transition Guidelines
1) No changes were made to the ISO/TS16949-supplemented requirements.
ISO/TS16949:2009 introduces no new or changed requirements. ISO 9001:2008 is based on clarifications or amendments to the existing requirements of ISO 9001:2000 and those that are intended to improve consistency with ISO 14001:2004.
While there are no new requirements in the revised standard, organizations shall update any references in their quality management system documents wherein ISO/TS16949:2002 or ISO 9001:2000 is stated, or have a plan in place to update these, prior to receiving their certificate for ISO/TS16949:2009.
2) Application
Organizations are expected to understand and apply the amendments to ISO/TS16949:2009. Application of this revision of ISO/TS16949:2009 is effective no later than 15 October 2009. Therefore, any audit (initial, surveillance or recertification) prior to 15 October 2009 can be performed at the organization's option to ISO/TS16949:2009. After 15 October 2009, all audits must be performed to ISO/TS16949:2009.
3) Certification status to ISO/TS16949:2002
The certification status to ISO/TS16949:2002 remains in effect for the certification life. Certification to ISO/TS16949:2009 is recognized with the effective date of the release of ISO/TS16949:2009. The certification to ISO/TS16949:2009 is not an upgrade and its term is the same as the current ISO/TS16949:2002 certificate.
4) Current certificates issued to ISO/TS16949:2002
Current certificates to ISO/TS16949:2002 do NOT have to be reissued until the recertification audit. However, any client may request their certificate to be reissued (with the current certification and expiration dates) to ISO/TS16949:2009 after a regularly scheduled surveillance audit, by informing your DNV auditor.
