Can you give more information about what question - or questions - you are really asking, as this isn't clear.

For example, what's your current situation? Packing what? For who?
And what do mean by 'is it needed'?

Whether you need it or not is /should be (as the Standard itself says) a strategic decision and one that is made by your top management.

WelL....Well.....Well no one can answer that question whether is it needed or not. ISO normally is applicable to any and every type of business where some kind of product / service is realized. So it is you who would decide whethes it is needed or not.

We have seen some organizations embracing the ISO just for the sake of marketing and without any real affection for the system, and on the other side we also have seen higly top management driven and motivated organizations, you have to decide you are in which side.

For the 1st part of your question, please give us some inputs as already mentioned by Jane and I am sure you would get loads of tips and suggestions.

Regards,

Arin

There are many companies in the packing industry who are ISO 9001 implementors and certified. So, is it needed?

Yes, if your customer(s) (or regulations in your industry) require it!

Yes, if you want to compete and grow your business!

Yes, if you want to demonstrate to your management/shareholders that you have effective control over your processes and satisfy customers......

'How to go for ISO' depends on you - there are many threads about implementation.

I am the Quality Systems Manager and work for a packaging company. We have been certified for about 10 years. (starting with QS). It really is up to your customers. Some will require certification while others may just require "compliance". It is a great marketing tool as well as structured system. I like the accountability and its use as a tool for CIP. Feel free to ask anything you need.
