Our Purchasing Manager would like to review all purchasing processes especially how we're initially selecting suppliers. Anyone ever used a matrix or checklist to initially evaluate (compare) potential suppliers and choose the final one from there? We're in the electronics industry and would like to see a sample of this method.
Thank you,

When comparing several different options, a Pugh Matrix is one good tool (there are others). Google it.
Another thing you should do, if possible, is to audit their business systems; tour their facilities to get a feel for their competence.

Thank you,
You need to establish the criterion to place in the checklist. For example do they have iso 9000 certification and what compensatory requirements do you apply if they don't.

Thank you,
You may want to evaluate how the supplier suits your company & its requirements by
- accessibility & communication,
- understanding of your requirement,
- delivery process,
- delivery time,
- quality of delivered products,
- financial health to sustain bill processing and payment cycle,
- placing a test order,
etc.
Elaborate these as suit your organisation. Hope this helps in developing the checklist.
