Hi there,

Need everybody advised how to reply for below nonconformance. It was issued during our Recertification ISO14001 Audit recently.

Any idea, please let me know...

Establishing, implementing and maintaining a documented procedures(s) to control situations where their absence could lead
to deviation from the environmental policy, objecitves and targest and
Evidence:
Other waste water aside from the pretreatment/painting did not have any proper treatment prior discharge and were
directly channneled to the storm drain. Eg: Oily washing from canteen, washing of the floor mapping equipment,
wash basin in the molding areas, etc.

1. You are in contravention of the local Environmental Quality Act (section on discharge to open drainage)
2. Somewhere in your EMS there must be a description on how you are going to address this kind of problem.
3. Generally, you need a grease trap type of structure as a minimum.

Why didn't you discuss (or seek clarification) with your auditor at the end of the audit?

What can I think off is to put a greaste trap at applicable location. But for production after they do cleaning activities using mopping, the waste straight go to drain..any idea how can i do?

You generate liquid waste? How do you treat them? Can you treat the waste water from cleaning together with these?

How to reply to the NC? Quite simple, do it according to the requirements stipulated in 4.5.3 by using your Corrective Action procedure......

This NC most likely came out of the "prevention of pollution" or "comply to regulatory requirements" promise in your policy

Hi Mazura,

There could be possibilities that your sewage discharges is being handled through local municipal appointed agent, Indah Water. Have you check on that?

You may need to correct the issue with the mop water by collecting the mop water once you are done using the water and placing it in a container for collection by an organization that will treat the water. Or collect it in a container and treat the water yourself..
