Hi guys
I will trouble you again.
Does anybody knows how to do quality control on metal hose.
I got a braid issue (dent) of some metal hoses and our supplier suggested
to do repairing by some sharp hook.
By the way, inside of the hose is Stainless steel pipe.
And what i want to know is:
Is it allowed for a hook reparing?
the normally way for a quality control on metal hose.
thanks.

Why not attach a picture of the part you mentioned? It helps in understanding your problem.

Is it allowed for a hook reparing?I agree with Harry: We need more information, but I suppose that how and if such a hose is to be repaired the method will have to be decided in view of its intended use. From what we have been told thus far, it seems to me that this hose may be designed to withstand a fair amount of pressure. Is this correct? If so, dents and sharp hooks sound a bit scary...

Hi guys
Thanks for your responses. These metal hose will used for a equipment that in glass industry.
Now, i attached some photos for dent/hit and braid issue.
I have compared these local metal hose with US ones, these are looks
better and better performance on leaking and blast functional testing.
It seems that i have extremely high quality expectations on these hoses
as them will be for a global useage.
Thanks.

these items are often for pressure applications - question is - are wires broken or just dented - I wouldn't be using a hook to fix these

Just dented.
I think supplier need care about the transportation and packing.
Good products never producted by repairing.

Hello, Kurt!
Now... please be patient with me:D, as I will approach this differently as a possible helping thread. Some questions...
Are these really expensive hoses? Can't you just replace them?
Are these hoses certified? FDA or FAA? Is the stainless steel of some ra finish?
Why do you feel a need to repair them? Are you running pressured product through the hoses near the pressure rating, or are you significantly below the rated pressure?
Could you wrap/coat the outside of the hoses with a rubber, additional stainless steel mesh, or some other type product?
Is the desire to repair the braid a cosmetic thing?
I know those hoses are not inexpensive, to say the least. I'm just not sure if the effort would be worth it. There is little room for trying to work with the braid, and trying to weld stainless together is a pretty difficult task.
If it is a cosmetic thing, you may can approach it differently than needing to fix the braids for strength support.

I think Kurt had not succeeded in explaining the issue clearly. My interpretation is that the dent is just on the braided wires, therefore a cosmetic kind of defect and not on the pipe itself. In other words, the wires were bend inwards and using a pointed or/and hooked instrument to hook it out or straighten it may work (think knitting).
To Kurt, if you are particular about this kind of defects why not protect it by wrapping it up or putting it into boxes. Rough handling during transport is something to be expected.
