View Full Version : Bird Control to Meet EU 1774/2002 Standards

We have an ongoing issue with bird control in our receiving and loading areas. We have wire netting across the top, just below bin level at the loadout. We have a bird squawker in that area as well. Besides that we have plastic strip curtains to fill in the top and side gaps when a truck is dumping or loading.
On our recent EU audit for pet food manufacturing the inspector said it isn't good enough, and that he wants to see a screen that drapes around the truck totally closing it off from bird entry. The management team is reluctant to go ahead with it mainly because they don't seem to think it will work.
Anyone have any experience with bird control or thoughts on how to use screen to cover the top and sides of a truck?

Thanks in advance
Mauri

PS. If this isn't in the right forum please move it.

No experience with this but what about air curtains? The blowers that are directed outwards to keeps bugs etc out. Just a thought but I’m not sure if they have ones strong enough for birds.

Plan B: If not the air itself, small streamers along the length that fly out when the air is on to wave crazily as a deterrent to scare the birds out with movement.
