View Full Version : Integrating ISO 14001 with QS-9000 for a 'single' system

We recently obtained a book "Integrating ISO 14001 into a Quality Management System" by Marilyn BLock and I. Marash thinking it might help us combine 14000 with our QS9000. As it turns out, the book has a 2 page spread stating what's related between the two and the rest of the book tells you how to integrate ISO 9000 with 14001. Has anyone seen anything more specific to QS9000?

1st--isn't QS9000 going by the wayside? If it is, why are you going to expend effort on something that is irrelevent?

2nd--Doesn't QS9000 contain all the elements of ISO 9001 + some other gobblety goop? If it does then if you integrate the common elements between 14K & 9K, and then implement all the other required elements of the 2 standards as necessary, it seems to me that you will have what you need.

Purchasing the book you stated was OK, but if you had checked the back of ISO 14001:1996 you would have found a comparison chart as well.

As for specific QS9K and 14K, I haven't seen anything.

Not that it will help with QS, but ISO 9001:2000 has a cross reference to ISO 14000 as an Annex.

As far as integrating the different systems, I used a cross reference to do something similar years ago and am just getting started on an ISO 9001:1994 -update to-> ISO 9001:2000 + ISO 14001 and QOS -to-> Q1 project. I basically plan on doing a matrix as I did before. The quality manual will be interesting. I haven't figured that one for sure yet. I'm still in the thinking phase. I want to finish my Upgrading to ISO 9001:2000 project and then I'll attack the 14001 integration. No to mention the QOS stuff.

Nope - haven't seen a QS-9000 vs. 14001 matrix that I can remember. I do agree with Randy, though. Why QS? A Customer Requirement, I suppose. Who's the customer?

I used the cross reference in the ISO 14001 standard as a guide to integrating with QS. Worked OK for me and our auditor did not have any concerns with my format during our stage I audit.
