Hi all,

I have (hopefully) a simple question.

We are in the process of ISO Registration. When I originally got the quote for registration and signed the contract, we had less than 50 employees which is always a cheaper rate. About a month after, we got really busy and hired a lot of people, so now we are over 50. We don't know how long the surge will last and we are considering them all on 90 day probationary "temp" for now. I'm planning to get the audit in January, so do I need to inform the registrar now, or wait to see if we keep them?

Thanks!!

Firstly, it depends how much over 50 you are.....you might find that there's no extra audit days or charges. So, yes, call your CB's point of contact, tell them the current number.

So-called "The effective number of personnel" which influences on the calculation of audit days shall include any temporary, seasonal or other personnel in case that they are doing works within the QMS of an organization. So prior to informing your registrar, you need to confirm whether they will continue to work or not until January. If they are still working in January, the registrar will surely try to include all of them in the number of employees and subsequently the audit days and the fees will be increased. However, if not, you don't need to inform your registrar on this.

In case that this kind of thing happens on a more regular basis within your company (i mean not for this time only), you are recommended to inform your registrar about this situation. They will probably make some arrangements on it.

IAF MD5:2009 is the document the certification bodies use to determine audit days. Look at the table on page 12:
IAF Mandatory Document For Duration of QMS and EMS Audits (http://www.compad.com.au/cms/iaf/workstation/upFiles/626978.IAF-MD5-2009-QMS-EMS_Audit_Duration_-Pub.pdf)
