This standard is for managing IT services. The other standard is ISO 17799 and equivalent is BS 7799.

The grapewine is that the BS 15000 standards are going to change in November'2002. It is going on split into two- BS 15000-1 and BS 15000-2 and also PD 005 and PD 015 are to be complied.

Any help from viewers please

BSI Management Systems wrote the BS 15000 Std. This is a pure IT std based on ITIL practices.
There is an upgrade path from ISO 9001:2000. The cost is based on the required number of days which is based on the number of people in your organization. Typically they will follow Guide 62 guidelines for ISO 9001 and add 1 or 2 days. BSI is one of the main CB for certification. As far as I know they are the only CB with Certified Auditors in the US.
Other CB are accedited but have no "local" auditors at this time. So far inquiries have been low.

The STD can be purchased at www.basiamericas.com

There are free downloads of BS 15000 information on the BSI website.

I have performed compliance audits to BS 15000 and it is excellent for IT or data Centers.

Looks like I got beat to the punch on this one

Yes, but you can correct two things:

the BSI Americas webpage is mispelled
BS15000 was probably written by BSI, not BSI MS. BSI MS is a Registrar, related body of BSI, the Standard Development GroupLet us know.

You're correct Sidney, BSI is the standards body for the UK and wrote BS15000.

The address for BSI Management Systems (Yeah! Chears! :applause: ) is www.bsiamericas.com

Both training and registration services are offered as is the standard (for a fee of course)

Applications invited for accreditation for certifying to ISO 20000 Standard, IT Service Management
BS 15000 is to be replaced by ISO 20000 on 5 th December 2005. Applications are now invited from certification bodies wishing to provide accredited certification for ISO 20000.
ISO20000 promotes the adoption of an integrated process approach to deliver effectively managed IT services to meet business and customer requirements.

UKAS expects to run a pilot assessment programme for applicants, aiming to complete within a given timeframe, to be established following consultation with interested parties, but likely to be concurrent with the period for the transition from BS15000 to ISO 20000. To be considered for inclusion in the UKAS pilot assessment we will need to receive applications and accompanying documentation by March 31st 2006. The pilot programme may include desk-top reviews, head office assessments, witnessed assessments and/or other assessment techniques as determined through contract review.
Details of the anticipated pilot assessment programme will be provided to applicant organisations by April 2006.
Applications should be made using the form AC1 for existing UKAS accredited organisations, New applicants to accreditation should also complete a General application form. All forms should be accompanied with quality system documentation and the appropriate application fee and forwarded to:

ISO/IEC 20000 benchmarks provision of IT service management

With up to 80% of information technology budgets of most organizations directly linked to service management processes, a new ISO/IEC standard that benchmarks this activity is expected to result in cost savings for users, whether large or small enterprises, as well as increased productivity and improved customer service.

Published by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), ISO/IEC 20000 will enable organizations to benchmark their capability in delivering managed services, measuring service levels and assessing performance.
Today, IT service providers are under sustained pressure to deliver high quality service at minimum cost. Concerns have been raised that IT services, whether provided by an in-house IT department or an external organization, are not aligned with the needs of the business and its customers. ISO/IEC 20000 will reduce operational exposure to risk, meet contractual and tendering requirements, demonstrate service quality and deliver best value.
The implementation of ISO/IEC 20000 will ensure proactive working practices able to deliver high levels of customer service to meet their business needs.
"Organizations will reap major business and financial benefits by ISO/IEC 20000 adoption," explains François Coallier, Chair of ISO/IEC group that approved the standard. "These service management processes deliver the best possible service to meet a customer’s business needs within agreed resource levels, i.e. service that is professional, cost effective and with risks that are understood and fully managed."
ISO/IEC 20000:2005, which is issued in two parts under the general title, Information technology - Service management, will enable service providers to understand how to enhance the quality of service delivered to their customers, both internal and external.

Part 1: Specification provides requirements for IT service management and is relevant to those responsible for initiating, implementing or maintaining IT service management in their organization.
Part 2: Code of practice, represents an industry consensus on guidance to auditors and assistance to service providers planning service improvements or to be audited against ISO/IEC 20000-1:2005.ISO/IEC 20000 integrates the process-based approach of ISO's management system standards – ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004 – including the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle and requirement for continual improvement.
Organizations that so wish can have their IT service management systems independently certified as conforming to the requirements of ISO/IEC 20000.
The new standard is based on the British Standard BS 15000 and is integrated into ISO and IEC collection of software and systems engineering standards.
ISO/IEC 20000-1:2005 costs 81 Swiss francs and ISO/IEC 20000-2:2005 costs 124 Swiss francs. They are available from ISO national member institutes (see the complete list (http://www.iso.org/iso/en/prods-services/ISOstore/store.html) with contact details) and from ISO Central Secretariat (see below).

The Certification Agency or Registrar in the US is BSI Management Systems.
They are the only ones as of this reply that have certified US based auditors for this standard.

BS 15000 has just been approved by ISO and is now ISO 20000
The ISO Link is

The Certification Agency or Registrar in the US is BSI Management Systems.
They are the only ones as of this reply that have certified US based auditors for this standard. Be very careful how you phrase your assertions here. Sentence # 2 of your post has NOTHING to do with sentence # 1.
BSI Management Systems is ONE out of many registrars doing BS15000 audits. To the best of my knowledge, there is NO IAF-supported ACCREDITATION SCHEME in place for BS15000 or ISO 20000 as of yet. Under the itSMF process, there are several CB's. Check http://www.bs15000certification.com/lookuplist.asp?Type=6 . So, if an organization wants to be certified to ISO 20000, they will have to do so under a non-accredited scheme, which pretty much opens the assessment providers to a large range of "certifiers".

You are correct Sidney..as is normal. Just like other Registrars we've had to develop an internal scheme for auditors (of which I am not one)

ISO 20000 IS in fact an accredited scheme under UKAS.
Please refer to this link to the UKAS web on the subject.

If you read it carefully, you will find that UKAS has INVITED CB's for a PILOT program. So, there are NO CB's accredited for ISO 20000 at this time under an IAF signatory Scheme.

Your comment was "there is NO IAF-supported ACCREDITATION SCHEME in place for BS15000 or ISO 20000 as of yet."
I was addressing that statement. As you first sentence had nothing to do with the second. An accedited scheme does exist.

Who has an accredited scheme, and who did the accreditation?

Any updates on ISO 20000 accreditation? Are there accredited CBs or is the itSMF non-accredited scheme still the only game in town?
