Andrei Viorel 8th October 2002, 12:17 PM To support TPM, training and guidance in establishing a 5S program is required. 5Ss cover organization, orderliness, cleaning, standardization and self-discipline. 5Ss are often used as a pre-requisite program prior to TPM implementation to ensure the organization has developed good habits of organization and orderliness. S3=Seiso=Clean=Clean up “By cleaning you identify causes. Clean (all) places to keep dirties and dust away” S3 must be understood as Cleaning means Inspection too. Cleaning and inspection helps to eliminate this problem through the identification of defects before they become breakdowns. For example, the signs of a potential failure on a v-belt are apparent long before the actual breakdown occurs. Implementing an effective cleaning and inspection process would allow the operator and technicians to identify and diagnose the problem before it becomes critical. vio rick_china 13th August 2003, 01:48 PM Total Preventive Maintainance is one side maintain one side prevent the machine.
