May we all take a few moments to remember all the veterans who secured the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. There are over 19 million veterans in the US.

USMC, 1967 - 1973 (half active duty, half active reserve.) Active duty was mostly in Adak AK; Albany GA (while dating a lovely lady near Baltimore MD - now the wife of almost 32 years - talk about long weekends driving!); Vietnam & Okinawa (3rd Amtrac Bn.) Reserve duty was in DC, VMF-321 (a fighter squadron). USAF Reserve, 1979 - 1985, Charleston SC - 315 Airlift Wing. And toss in about 15 years of Civil Service working for the Navy ... Oh, and I am an immigrant - I became a US citizen in April 1968. Randy 14th November 2002, 11:55 AM Well whoooo haaaa and Semper Fi Graeme! What in the world is (or was) in Adak, Alaska? Graeme 14th November 2002, 03:31 PM Randy said: What in the world is (or was) in Adak, Alaska? There used to be a Naval Air Station there, and wherever two or more sailors are gathered together there needs to be a Marine Barracks to keep an eye on them. There was also Coast Guard station of some sort, and a civilian fishing village. I think the fishermen are still there, but the Navy & Marines are gone. For those who don't know, Adak is about halfway out the Aleutian Island chain, at the bottom of the arc it forms. It is one of the islands that was occupied by Japan during WW-II. One thing I learned there is that there are very few things better than King Crab that is still dripping from the Bering Sea when it is put in the cooking pot! Graeme What you really mean is a "Brig". Never been there, anywhere. Learned early on what happens to Sailors "watched" by Marines. No thank you! :vfunny: :ko: :smokin: Jimmy Olson 14th November 2002, 05:35 PM Graeme said: wherever two or more sailors are gathered together there needs to be a Marine Barracks to keep an eye on them. Everywhere I've been the sailors had to watch the marines to keep them out of trouble :vfunny: :vfunny: :vfunny: Graeme 14th November 2002, 11:19 PM energy said: What you really mean is a "Brig". Yup. It was in the basement. Down deep in the basement. Naturally steam heated by the volcano on the next island to the East. Randy Stewart 15th November 2002, 09:59 AM wherever two or more sailors are gathered together there needs to be a Marine Barracks to keep an eye on them. My question is why it always took so many Marines to keep an eye on so few sailors???? It never made sense. As sailors when we got in trouble we received "Captains Mast", but Marines got "Office Hours". Sierra Foxtrot! :biglaugh: db 15th November 2002, 10:13 AM USAR from 78 - 92 Activated during the Cuban flotilla aroung '80, and Desert Shield/Storm. Co-wrote FM 29-30 (EPW Operations) back in '79.
