View Full Version : Calibration Tracking Software: Seeking Recommendations and Comments
Fire Girl 18th November 2002, 03:06 PM Hello
Can someone give me some ideas on some calibration software for tracking my calibrations. I guess I am looking for a glorified database. I have done a search on this and found one about making my own using Access. It is highly unlikely that I could pull this off, even if I did have the time, which I don't.
So can someone give me some names of software (and prices). It doesn't need to be elaborate stuff.
Thanks.

Jerry Eldred 18th November 2002, 03:48 PM There are quite a few calibration database packages out there. I believe if you search through the archives of this forum, you'll find some postings listing quite a few of them.
A few that I can recall for the moment are:
Calmate or Labmate by Norfox.com
Mettrack by Fluke
Blue Mountain Software (coolblue.com)
Cybermetrics Corp (cybermetrics.net)
Intercalinc.com (automated cal procedures)
pmisoftware.com
qualitysys.com
surecal.com

Bill Ryan 19th November 2002, 08:36 AM We use (and are happy with) GAGETRAK by JBL Systems.

My first try at posting a link, hope it works.

energy 19th November 2002, 09:36 AM You can also look at harrington.com. You can try it for 30 days, no charge. User friendly, word based. You can view their Internet sales. I saw CA5 Issue Management System (CA) on sale for $299, plus a $100 cash back rebate. The Calibration recall system works like CA5, which I have. Worked with the Calibration recall, or whatever they call it, in a previous life. Just a thought.
Ken K 19th November 2002, 11:46 AM We've been using Advanced Gage Control for years now. Suits our needs, but I wouldn't call it outstanding.
FG, you know what your company needs. Do a search for calibration software, download some trials and see how they work for you. Hands-on will lead you to a suitable program for you.

In keeping with the rules of the forum, I must confess that I do have an affiliation with the software development company but...check out the the new Transcat catalog for Transcal V5. Incredible software.

Mike S. 8th October 2003, 10:15 AM Someone here told me that Trackpro software could be downloaded and used for free if you only had something like 150 or fewer gages, so we tried it. IMO it is not too great, but it does the job minimally once you figure it out. What do you want for free I guess...but glad I did not pay for it or else I would probably have returned it. It may be better and have more features if you buy it, not sure -- you can check into it with no risk.
Grizz1345 8th October 2003, 04:05 PM I have been using GageTrak by Cybermetrics for 5 years and love it. It is very user friendly. I must confess that I do beta testing for them. I use this software on a daily basis. I have found it useful for when I am audited and the auditor likes the records it keeps. Have a great day. :D
Sirlard 8th October 2003, 04:33 PM We have been using Gage Management System by Prompt Consultants since 1998 and have had no problems with the software. We have upgraded several times. The software was half the price of other deluxe systems, and it has all the features.
bpritts 9th October 2003, 12:01 AM Several of my clients use Gagetrak from Cybermetrics (as mentioned by
grizz345 above) and love it. In addition to the normal calibration tracking,
it does measurement system analysis (aka gage R & R).
Can't recall how much it cost, though.

Groo3 9th October 2003, 01:03 PM We use a "Calibration Maintenance" program which is part of an ISO-9000/14000 compliance package from IBS (QSI) http://www.qualitysys.com/ ... There are about 65 databases in the package we purchased (we got the System 9000 Automotive / System 14000 integrated package). One problem is that the databases run on Lotus Notes, but I believe other options are available?

Rob Nix 10th October 2003, 04:24 PM We likewise use GageTrak (cybermetrics) and are very happy with it. My last company did too. It is curious that almost all the replies for users of GageTrak are from Michigan (one is from Wisconsin - sort of close), even though Cybermetrics is out of Arizona.

I used GageTrack throughout the 90's for a high-tech machine shop with hundreds of gages and other measuring instruments. I don't remember what the price was, but it seemed reasonable then or I would have had second thoughts. I remember it seemed VERY user-friendly. the company has several other products in its suite of programs that struck me as being big time savers for companies with lots of production folks and few clerks. We used their programs to keep track of gages and tooling.
I don't use it now at present company - not enough stuff to track to make it worthwhile.
I do know they have free demo disk and you can even download the user manual for a pre-taste of what the learning curve might be. Check 'em out yourself at http://www.cybermetrics.com/ and use them for a benchmark to compare other programs. Lots of ads in ASQ Quality Progress! ASQ is pretty touchy about accepting ads from charlatans! They drop 'em like a hot potato if customers complain to ASQ.
A final word -
In general, I prefer an off-the-shelf product rather than developing my own. Take a clue from Marc. He uses an off-the-shelf product to operate this Forum, and he still has to put in time maintaining it. Imagine how much more time-consuming if he had to write the program from scratch! In addition, you benefit from the input of multiple users (beta testers?) in determining the parameters for how the program will work.
bobhall 15th October 2003, 09:23 AM I've used GageTrack (Cybermetrics) and GagePack (PQ Systems) and prefer the later. Better features, less bugs, better suport. We currently use GageTrack, wish we could go back to GagePack.

Lord Ituralde 13th November 2003, 10:15 PM Hello,
Is there a software that can export their reports on outlook and send it automatically? A software that can, like, make a list of gages and arranged according to its owners and send it automatically to each users using outlook.
cheers!

TommyT 1st December 2003, 09:37 AM Hi
I'm very interested in your statement "I guess I am looking for a glorified database. I have done a search on this and found one about making my own using Access."
I'm making my own & would like to konw more about the one you found.
By the way, we use GageTrak - it's expensive & mediocre. It works.

We don't have a computer in the inspection room, the measuring tool tracking software would probably be the only thing used on it.
This system is softwareless, cheap. Nobody has to write anything down twice. Could get a bit bulky, but I'm saving my pennies for E^2 job shop systems.
good luck.. oh--I'm using this system so if you don't understand the wording of the article and are interested in using it, drop me a line
Grizz1345 2nd December 2003, 08:42 PM Just read atestade's comments. I had to read the article in Quality Magazine. It was spooky as I used the exact same system 40 years ago in the military to track personnel for morning reports. I guess that if you are tracking less than 100 or so gages this system is great and cheap. When dealing with thousands of gages a computer with a software package is really appreciated, at least by me.
Have a great day. :)

We have the E2 system and it works great. We use it for everything. Hope you can get it soon.

apestate 4th December 2003, 12:37 PM alas
we have about 500 gages to track with the 3-RB/RB. Kind of reminds me of a library back in the day.
E^2 is in our future, but we're only 15 people running screw machines. 7g's for three seats in the software is a little daunting.
I'd go software on the gages for $200.
regards

JBL is a reseller of gage tracking software.
Their sales associate was wonderful durring and shortly after our experience with them, however, when the software didnt 'measure up', they were no longer very helpful. Still 'decent' people, but you better know exactly what you are getting and know that they will not be able to help you if the software purchased through them doesnt perform as promised.
I am sure they'd be willing to sell us additional liscenses however.
