If so, thank you and I'll rest as much as my 8 yr. old son will allow (although, just spending the four days with him and the wife should refresh me). Happy Thanksgiving to everyone - everywhere!! And Enjoy the Weekend. energy 30th November 2002, 09:30 AM Jim Wade said: As the well-known joke has it: American: "Do you celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK?" Brit: "Indeed we do. On July 4!" Have a great long weekend, American friends! rgds Jim Jim, Well known? Where? I never heard it and worse is that I'm not sure I got it. Is it related to a bad marriage and a good divorce when each party is glad to see the bloody last of each other? If so, I get it! :biglaugh: :ko: :smokin: Randy 30th November 2002, 05:56 PM Mr. Wade ought to be thankful we whipped his ancestors fannies in 1814 also or they would have acquired us back!!:biglaugh: energy 1st December 2002, 10:14 AM Randy said: Mr. Wade ought to be thankful we whipped his ancestors fannies in 1814 also or they would have acquired us back!!:biglaugh: I hope eveybody had a HAPPY THANKSGIVING The one celebrated on November 28, 2002. Not the 4th of July one celebrated elsewhere in that "well known" joke. Now, I really understand it: First American National Thanksgiving - 1777 Declared by the Continental Congress following Burgoyne's Defeat at Saratoga. November 1, 1777 "Forasmuch as it is the indispensable Duty of all Men to adore the superintending providence of Almighty God; to acknowledge with Gratitude their Obligation to him for benefits received, and to implore such further Blessings as they stand in Need of: And it having pleased him in his abundant Mercy, not only to continue to us the innumerable Bounties of his common providence; but also to smile upon us in the Prosecution of a just and necessary War, for the Defence and Establishment of our inalienable Rights and Liberties...It is therefore recommended to the legislative or executive Powers of these UNITED STATES, to set apart THURSDAY, the eighteenth Day of December next, for the Solemn Thanksgiving and Praise: That at one Time and with one voice, the good People may express themselves to the Service of their Divine Benefactor... And it is further recommended, That servile labour, and such Recreations, as, though at other Times innocent, may be unbecoming the Purpose of this Appointment, be omitted on so solemn an Occasion." :biglaugh: :smokin: Kevin Mader 4th December 2002, 04:43 PM Hello Bill (Ryan that is), Actually, I was wishing Bill (a.k.a. energy) a good one since he has been in the hot seat on a few recent occasions and because, well, he is a Master Fishing Dude I admire. Nonetheless, if this confusion honors(honored) you both, then I'm a lucky guy to single out the Bills here at the Cove!! I hope you had a terrific 4 days off with the family. I had a great time myself enjoying 5 days with mine including my 8 MONTH old. She is quite the experience of my life!!! Now, how many days left until Christmas???? Too few, I'm afraid. Kevin p.s. to those who still believe in Santa, please don't interpret my wanting more time between now and Christmas as wanting it to go away. I just need the time to get my shopping done!! |
