View Full Version : Engineering Cartoon: As Designed, As Built to What Customer Receives
Randy 21st April 2003, 01:54 PM I've been searching the net like crazy looking for an old cartoon that I can incorporate into a powerpoint presentation. I've got a very bad copy that doesn't go through a scanner real well.
What I need is the cartoon that involves a tire swing wanted by a kid and all the different variations through Sales, Engineering, Legal, Advertising and so on.
I appreciate whatever comes.

Al Dyer 21st April 2003, 01:58 PM Randy,
You might try to look for any "Calvin" toons, there are quite a few with him on a tire that you could use.

energy 21st April 2003, 01:59 PM The one I saw was a Government cartoon back when there was DCAS, DPRO, etc.. I'll check my cache for a better copy.

Maybe this will help. Cut and paste?:ko: :smokin:
db 21st April 2003, 02:21 PM I'm not sure if that is the one Randy (who did not get one vote for POY!) is looking for, but as I was reading his post, your cartoon is what I thought of.
Just like Dilbert, just enough reality to make you think!

db,
There is no doubt in this military mind that this is the cartoon of which Randy has searched for. And, if he's nice to me, I'll put it into a Powerpoint Presentation for him so they he can just add the slides to his existing collection. Not bad for someone who is genetically excluded from Mensa registration. It took all of 5 minutes to do search for Tire Swing on the Internet. Sometimes, you have to break out of that Silo. :vfunny: Stay tuned! Oh, sometimes I can just join the crowd that can't stand myself!:ko: :smokin:

And that is why you are one everyone's list of favorites (targets that is). :biglaugh:
Marc 21st April 2003, 05:33 PM Captured... The captions (departments) change with the industry, but this thing has been around since I was in my early 30's, at least...
Marc 21st April 2003, 05:36 PM Here's another 'Old as dem der hills' comic from my military manufacturing days. I used to really like it and thought it was funny until I found that it is often so true in real life...
QC Cops, as it were...
Al Dyer 21st April 2003, 05:41 PM Marc,
Didn't you used to have that posted as part of the old cove, or am I hallucinating again?:bigwave:
energy 21st April 2003, 05:52 PM Realizing that Randy may have a time problem with impressing his Studantes, here's a PPT presentation that even he could copy and adapt for his little ole self. Just being a bud!:vfunny: :smokin:
Randy 21st April 2003, 06:54 PM This is great, I can't believe how good the help is.
Thanks everyone. Now I have something to toss in to make product realization a little lighter.:bigwave:

Al,
You're not hallucinating this time! ;) If you watch the rolling artwork in the upper right hand corner of the monitor when you enter the site, you will see the turret interspersed or sandwiched somewhere in between Tom Ridge and Yosemite Sam.:bonk: :ko: :smokin:

I would have put the captions on the slide presentation for you but I didn't have the 5 minutes to spare. :vfunny: It's always nice to be able to contribute to the cause.:p :ko: :smokin:
Randy 22nd April 2003, 10:37 AM Hey thanks for all of it. This will be a hoot when I provide an example of why we need to plan.

The tank cartoon, but I don't think I have the tire swing posted. I have a paper copy here somewhere, though, in one of my 'oldies'files. If so I don't remember where.

We prefer e-mail addresses be kept in your profile information rather than in posts. The picture you are referring to is in a post attachment in this thread.
BTW - You may have entered jibberish in the profile fields when you registered which would cause the software to delete your user account (I see you're classified as a 'Guest'). If so, sorry about that, but we try to keep things on the level here - Registrations are monitored to keep spammers and other such problems out.
jdc62864 13th December 2004, 08:41 PM I'm having trouble finding the Government version of this cartoon. Can anyone help me? Thanks
Marc 13th December 2004, 08:44 PM I'm not sure what you mean by the 'government' version. Can you explain?

Is it the one with the "marketing" function included. The picture has a woman in a Jane (from Tarzan) outfit swinging on the swing?

qualitytrec 14th December 2004, 01:31 PM Here is a link with several swing cartoons in it hope it helps. I am having a problem locating the one I referenced above.

Wes Bucey 14th December 2004, 02:15 PM You folks have way too much time on your hands! Would you like to come to Chicago for free training on snow shoveling and driveway salting? - I'm told it's a very important factor in ISO14000. If there is time, we can go over to northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan for Advanced Tactics for Dealing with Lake Effect Snow.

Here in west michigan I have deligated snow removal to my two oldest sons. I also, asked them to take care of the single 80+ lady next door and the single 50+ lady next to her.
I believe that would fall into the advanced class wouldn't it. ;)

MarkAdvanced class of manipulation of other people. Congratulations! You are a "manager" - do none of the work, take all of the glory!
jdc62864 18th December 2004, 11:52 PM The cartoon I'm looking for is like the marketing tire swing cartoon, but someone changed it a little. Instead of what the customer wanted, it deals with the American people and Congress.
