how much additional work is required to update to ts 16949. we are a metal finishing business that just recently received iso 9001:2000 certification but are thinking of updating to ts 16949. we provide metal finishing to our customers who are direct suppliers to the automotive industry is this a wise move on our part or are we jumping to something we dont need.

How much work is required really depends on what processes you already have in place that meet the additional requirements. I believe that in TS 16949 there are roughly double the requirements of ISO 9001.

The decision really should be made based on your business needs. Is the benefit gained from certification worth the extra effort of jumping through the automotive hoops?
