Okay, I am in the middle of implementing TS and I keep getting asked where the "16949" came from.... at least the OTHER standards I could answer that question, since the "numbers" usually were indicators of the date of the release of the standard. I can't find anything on where the 16949 came from or what it indicates.

Anyone know?

More importantly, anyone know why I KEEP GETTING ASKED THIS?! LOL!! :vfunny:

Steel:

There was a thread on exactly this subject not too long ago. I'll see if I can find it.

The following is from the document itself:

The TS (Technical Specificaon) represents an agreement between the members of a technical committee and is accepted for publication if it is approved by 2/3 of the members of the committee casting a vote.
The number following is the number assigned by ISO to designate which TS is referred to.

However, I like the "date" theory too - this was the 9th version arrived at in 1694.

TS 16949 is a document that essentially replaces QS-9000. QS-9000 was developed by US auto makers, but 16949 was developed internationally. It contains the complete text of ISO 9001:2000 plus additional automotive requirements. Most automotive customers also have customer-specific requirements (CSRs) with additional requirements over and above 16949. The IAOB website www.iaob.org has several of the CSRs.

You can get copies of TS 16949 through ISO or the AIAG.
