Now, what type of company are you going to, and how mature is their system? Any details?

gpainter - Congratulations !!!!

Now, surround yourself with the best quality people you can find, have them all join the Cove, and build the best quality department ever.

Tip: When you lean back in your executive easy chair, don't put your feet up on the desk. Those chairs tip over and that will ruin an otherwise great nap. :biglaugh:

1. Surround yourself with the best personnel available

2. Listen when people try to talk to you
3. Give employees credit where credit is due
4. Don't try to fake 'em out, they'll probably catch you at it!:vfunny:

and yes, those chairs do tip over easily, so don't embarrass yourself by falling off!

Congratulations, and best wishes for continuing success!

Congratulations!!! :biglaugh:

Well, working in a quality dept. before, you should know the rules of engagement.

Stand up for what you believe in - everyone in the Quality dept looks to the manager for defence and everyone else in the company looks to the quality manager for blame.

Always present the quality dept. as a united front. If you appear unbreakable they will not be able to divide and conquer! - keep all disputes behind closed doors.

Lastly - communication, communication, communication. I have seen so many managers treating information as power, holding back on important stuff so they can look like they are indispensible..they end up looking like twats and any CEO worth their salt sees through that.

Most of all go and have a ball...getting your own dept. is brilliant...you can try out all the things you have wanted to, you can stop saying 'I would not have done it like that.....'

You won't have time to even consider putting your feet up on your shiny new desk!!! :smokin:

Congratulations! If you are looking for tips I have but four:

1) Stand for something.

2) Complete one recurring departmental quality task on time, always.

3) Say good morning to everyone.

4) Just put good parts in the box.

Don't burn your bridges. The grass always looks greener. You're more than capable to do the job. When the novelty begins to wear off, watch that new boss for signs of erratic behavior! ;)
Good luck.... :agree:

Congrats - I hope you find your new role exciting and rewarding.

It is a hot seat to sit in from time to time, but just remember if you are going to take that nap in the big chair, close the door first. Good Luck. :bigwave:

CONGRATS!

I have been at this job so long I didn't realize they were actually two seperate positions! I am the Quality Manager, ISO Representative, Assembly Supervisor, Source Inspector, and a couple others...
This cove has been a great help, when I got the position of QM I did a search on the web for a job description. I ended up here and ASQ. I am a member of ASQ but haven't had time to utilize their expertise, mostly because I have been here! Good Luck! :bigwave:

PaulaWe seem to have similar job descriptions. Mine also includes "clean the toilets" and "pick up trash in the parking lot."

Jasper Seating? Is that in or around Jasper, Indiana? If it is and if you know anyone with the last name of Huls they're a cousin or other relative of some sort. I'm originally from Evansville.

By the way Marc, how easy is it to get this transfered to my new e-mail?

Randy, I know of Darryl Huls. He owns a lot of rental housing in the Jasper area. If anyone is ever in the area, look me up at Jasper Seating (812 482 3204). My grandpa lived in E,ville with his second wife. His step children were Wayne and Jenny Lamb. His name was Edward Painter

He'll be kin of some type. There is only one family in the US with the name of Huls and all of the roots go back to the same seed so to speak.

I get up there occasionally to see mom and the clan, I've got your number. :bigwave:

This? The Cove? Piece of cake: Go to the User Control Panel. Proceed to Password. There you'll have the option to change not only the password, but also your mail addie. (As it happens, I changed my own addie the other day).

Hey Greg,
I changed companies not too long ago myself. If you inherited a staff, I found it useful to sit with each person and ask them to tell you what they do, what their problems/challenges are, where they see things that need to be fixed, where they see themsleves going in the future, and what they need from you. It was a good icebreaker and I learned lots of things about the quality system in the process.

If you didn't inherit a staff, try doing this with other functional managers. It'll give you a good starting spot.

Also, for 2-3 months, listen more than you talk. It helps with "foot in mouth" disease.

Congratulations on the new job. Jasper used to be a town of craftsmen many years ago with a real deep rooted quasi-German heritage, if memory serves me correctly. Agood work ethic but a bit on the stubborn side, you know a little opinionated . Anyhow it helps to explain a little about Randy now that we know where his roots come from ;) doesn't it?
