Don't know if this is the place to start this thread. Need some information on ELV. Some of our customers are sending information to us like we are supposed to know what its all about. Anything would be appreciated. :thanx:

Are you an automotive supplier and are these notifications that the customer has removed the document retention limits for certain parts? Conversely, are they notifications of extension of service parts which would require you to hold open the same documents? Just a thought.

I am a consultant working in ELV management - have a client concerned about testing / validation procedures of IMDS data, particularly with respect to "substances of concern (SOC)" and material marking (driven by EU regulation).

Does anyone have any experience as to any how automanufacturers verify IMDS data for SOC, marking etc and what is required from the supplier (e.g. data, design drawings, testing requirements, who pays etc)?

ELV is a complex directive with many issues. I am not entirely sure what this thread is asking?

IMDS simply facilititates a central data base that lets OEMs and their suppliers share material data for the purpose of verifying the parts confirm to primarily ELV but mainly that they conform to the OEMs material standards. There now exists a GADSL which is a global standard list that details all Prohibited and Declarable substances and is tied into ELV and the OEM's material standards.

IMDS is really setup for the exchange of material data and is a very good tool as long as you understand the interface.

Thanks - I agree the ELV directive is complex ... my question (as it links to IMDS) is that I undestand that auto manufacturers will use data from IMDS in calculating recoverability / recyclability, material marking and substances of concern.

However, given the potential legal liability I am trying to find out what "verification" mechanisms are in place to check that the IMDS data is actually correct; if IMDS data is incorrect then potentially there are compliance issues with the ELV Directive for auto manufacturers.

My client is concerned that there will be additional testing requirements, data requirements etc which is an obvious cost to them; I am trying to help them understand how this works in practice ...
