Can I refer to a "guide" in my Quality Manual or a Quality Procedure and refer to this "guide" as "used for reference, guidelines and training purposes only"? I don't want to have to control this document (guide) to the point where it is needs revision control or it is analyzed during an audit and fails because it is not followed precisely as written.

I don't think it matters what you call the document. I believe, if the use of the document affects the quality of the product, the document requires control.
