View Full Version : No equipment maintenance requirement in ISO 9001:2000?

Hey,
When I go through the ISO9001:2000 standard for the requirement about equipment maintenance, it is surprised to me that there is no specific description about it. We all know that there is detailed requirement for equipment maintenance in 7.5.1.4. So for the company ISO9k:2K certificated, Does that mean they do not need to do anything for it?

I beg to differ. There is in fact such a requirement in clause 6.3:

The organization shall determine, provide and maintain the infrastructure needed to achieve conformity to product requirements. Infrastructure includes, as applicable

a) buildings, workspace and associated utilities,
b) process equipment (both hardware and software), and
c) supporting services (such as transport or communication).

Thanks for clarification, and I am ashamed about my poor understanding on this subject. I like the description of TS much more than ISO9K, it seems more specifiable.

Ashamed? There is absolutely no need to be. I'm just glad to be able to help, and I've both needed and gotten lots of help myself here in the Cove. That's what we do here... Exchange ideas, hints and information.

Once again, welcome :agree:

I agree fully with Claes on 6.3

keep in mind that ISO 9k:2k was written to provide a management system applicable to all organizations. that is why we find, sometimes, that TS is actually easier to work with.

Many of the clauses of ISO 9k:2k are clarified by referencing the 16949 technical specification, taking a look at 9004:2000's additional information will also help.
