View Full Version : Learning Uncertainty - Training, Good book? Good software or freeware?
Cheng 3rd May 2004, 01:26 PM Hello Everybody,
I want to learn more about uncertainties. Anyone which is a good book? Good software or freeware? Or good training?
Govind 3rd May 2004, 03:29 PM Cheng,
There are many software available in the market. But before using them, you may want to strengthem your theory. See other threads in this forum on uncertainty. There are many useful information.
Here is my suggestion for a reference:
http://qualitypress.asq.org/perl/catalog.cgi?item=H1112
The Uncertainty of Measurements: Physical and Chemical Metrology: Impact and Analysis,Kimothi, S. K.
I have not read the recent ASQ release" The Metrology Handbook"by Bucher, Jay.
This book says in the content that it contains Measurement Uncertainty.

Charles Harvey 4th May 2004, 12:12 AM "The Metrology Handbook" is quite new. I just got a copy last week after being on order for several months. It has a chapter on uncertainty that I'm sure you will find useful. Another resource is the book "Evaluating The Measurement Uncertainty" by Ignacio Lira. I got my copy at Amazon.com
You might also do a web search for European co-operation for Accreditation EA-4/02 for a downloadable document. Also the A2LA has an uncertainty document that can be downloaded.

The infos are very useful. Is the pdf file downloadable? Because I can only read on the screen or print it out, can't save. Is that normal?

Cheng 4th May 2004, 12:35 PM Do you have to have a full version of Adobe to be able to save it?
Cheng
Charles Harvey 4th May 2004, 02:54 PM I have Acrobat version 6 and have already saved both of them. I can email them if I have an address. Before I had Acrobat I used to be able to save pdf files through my explorer.

Hi Corollax,
No, I am working in an in-house lab. But the FDA auditors now are asking for uncertainties even for in-house cal cert.
Are you Singlas lab?

I’m in aviation company & has a in-hse cal lab. CAAS (& other govt agencies) are off-loading calibration approvals to singlas so currently working on getting singlas by oct. I hv a consultant with this project & yes, MU can be quite complex for some instruments, even with specific training.
If u need only e MU model & still at zero, may want to try convince yr company to spend some money & get consultant to create the MU + training. My consultant charges few hundred $ per model depending on complexity, but I got him on a full package.
good luck

ChengWhen you load the document it should normally come up with its own frame within your web browser window. At the top of that frame is the Acrobat Reader toolbar. One of the icons should look like a floppy disk - click on that to save the file. (the web browser File | Save will not work.) See the attached picture for an example.
Ken K 21st May 2004, 01:22 PM There is a section on Uncertainty links down the page.

Hope this helps.
