Hello everyone,

I would appreciate your help trying to find out the exact meaning for the 7.4.1 requirement: "The organization shall ensure that purchased product conforms to specified purchase requirements". What should an auditor look for? I think this look similar to 7.4.3 requirement, which asks organization to inspect or perform some other control to ensure that purchased product conforms to specified purchase requirements.

I have found allready a thread about this item named "Difference between 7.4.1 and 7.4.3", from July 2002. But if you have new ideas, I welcome them!

There is a difference. . . One requirement (7.4.1) states that you should make sure you got what you ordered, i.e. have a process in place to verify what you got against the P.O. requirements.

The other requirement (7.4.3) states what that process should include.

IMHO, For internal auditing, you should audit the effectiveness of the process by verifying that 1) it is operational, and 2) it is giving you the intended or expected results. The audit of that process should be a simple matter.

Thanks for the clarification!

Still about auditing, you mean lack of controls should be address to 7.4.1, and non-conforming controls should be to 7.4.3?

Yes. . . Lack of a defined process being present in 7.4.1, and lack of, or an ineffective process in 7.4.3

I think the two clauses exist because the scope of the first clause (7.4.1) has widened from its original intent in ISO9001

Originally it only inferred bought in parts to end up at the customer, now it includes services and calibration so there has to be another section (7.4.3) to ensure that bought in parts are checked and checked via certain methods.

The check (inspection) in 7.4.1 is more of a paperwork check....I ordered X with a y and the paperwork says Im getting X with a y....tick in the box

Anyway...thats just some of my opinions as I just happen to be attacking that section of the standard today.... :read:
