View Full Version : Let's nominate a Cove'r for ASQ Board! Steve Prevette 12th August 2004, 06:11 PM See http://www.asq.org/news/news_releases/20040811_bod_nom.html I vote for Wes. - Steve Prevette ASQ 614 Chair. Wes Bucey 12th August 2004, 06:47 PM I guess I have to turn in my senior member application and pay my dues then. They've been sitting on my desk for a month as I agonize over whether to "re-up." I seriously worry about fighting a war in a foreign country (Milwaukee), where they think a pickled mushroom in a glass of brandy is a cocktail! The good news is there is a saloon/restaurant about a block and a half from ASQ HQ called the Safe House where they make a pretty good burger and serve a full mug of beer!:D Jennifer Kirley 12th August 2004, 07:47 PM Heh, I have had people say to me, "Why don't you run for politics?" I always reply, "Oh! I would be so much trouble!" The idea of Wes being an ASQ board member gave me a deja-vu feeling. D.Scott 13th August 2004, 08:12 AM Steve - What could Wes have done that is so bad as to make you feel so vindictive toward him? Dave CarolX 13th August 2004, 10:59 AM Steve - What could Wes have done that is so bad as to make you feel so vindictive toward him? Dave LOL!! VOTE FOR WES!!!! Jim Howe 13th August 2004, 11:01 AM See http://www.asq.org/news/news_releases/20040811_bod_nom.html I vote for Wes. - Steve Prevette ASQ 614 Chair. First, I have no problem seconding the nomination of Wes for ASQ board member. Second, I am curious as to which position you see Wes taking. President? Treasurer? It kind of reminds me of my early days as a member of Local #7 Union at Firestone and the best qualification anyone could have to run for office in the union was to have P***** off management at some point in time. :lmao: Wes, are you up to the task? :applause: Craig H. 13th August 2004, 11:20 AM Wes: Please run!!! You have my vote. Craig H. AllanJ 13th August 2004, 12:25 PM I vote for Wes. - Steve Prevette ASQ 614 Chair. IMO based on some of the discontent expressed in other threads about the ASQ, it would seem the ASQ Board in general has been inactive for a long time. But, Wes seems to be an active kind of a guy. On that basis, is he really qualified? He seems to lack the experience/ capability of being inactive. What if he tried to get something done - what chaos might that cause! So, in the interest of apparent tradition, perhaps we should nominate one of the folk from another thread about "Where are they now?" If he wants to become a member, I suggest he studies the BBC TV series, "Yes Minister" and "Yes Prime Minister". (Our other Brit Covers will understand that suggestion!) Blair's ability to field questions without notes and still sound halfway intelligent and knowledgeable about the situation is much more impressive than our USA guys who struggle to read a script off the teleprompter. Maybe it's just the accent!:lmao: AllanJ 13th August 2004, 12:49 PM I don't have the BBC channel on my cable, but from time to time, I tune in Parliament sessions on CSPAN. If you want a really good laugh, all true to life, and a great parallel for the internal politics, bureaucracy and stultified inaction of top management any Q Director or Manager has encountered - get a copy, get a six pack and have a good time. At the end of a day of fruitless meetings, you will conclude, "We are not alone!" Wes Bucey 28th September 2004, 02:44 AM Aside from the laughs we've had about my purported candidacy, I thought it might be instructive to see what the real criteria are for the various officers of ASQ. Start at this link http://www.asq.org/news/news_releases/20040811_bod_nom.html and download the various pdf files offered. Especially interesting is the one listing the position descriptions and the time commitments required for each office. According to the list, the office of president/chair is a three-year gig, starting at president-elect for one year, president for one year, Chair for one year. It's not clear who pays the travel expenses to visit all the various Sections and annual Division meetings during the year. The only listing of expense reimbursement is travel to three Board meetings each year and lodging is only reimbursed for the May meeting. Starting criteria for election - 6 years ASQ membership plus status as Senior or Fellow or Honorary. I am a Senior Member, as is Marc Smith and any number of other Covers. Carl Keller 28th September 2004, 09:48 AM I was a Borough Councilman for a three year term and my name was in the local paper at least once every month for the whole three years. My wife was going nuts! I just could not bear to sit back and pour money down the special interest groups drain! I had to tell it like it was. The funny thing is, 4 years later, I still get people that come up and tell me they thought I did a great job, unfortunately the few that made the loudest noise were the only ones that came to the Town Meetings. The ASQ gig will be the same way. Wes, I think you are exactly what the ASQ needs, unfortunately I dropped my membership and will not be joining again anytime soon, so I cannot support you on that side. Good luck. Most of us in Milwaukee do not allow anything pickled into a glass EVER. And you should try Mader's for good old fashioned German fare, or hit one of the new bistros in the Third Ward if you want a really great meal. I still miss the pizza in Chicago, but this is a great place to go out for a meal. If you go for the board, I'll even vote! Wes Bucey 28th September 2004, 01:15 PM Be nice! I still miss the pizza in Chicago, but this is a great place to go out for a meal. If you go for the board, I'll even vote!Twenty years ago, Mader's was great - it's still OK, but like many similarly famous spots in Chicago, it does a lot of coasting on its reputation. For instance, the Pump Room finally closed, despite the food still being delivered with great flair (and flame), because its main cachet - celebrities at Booth Number One - no longer had celebrities visiting, let alone sitting in Booth Number One. The big deal of a telephone in the booth died once everyone had cell phones. Pizza - fact is, you can get bad pizza in Chicago. You can also pay dearly for the wonderful service and food at a place like Tru (dinner for two with wine can easily exceed $300.) Thanks for the vote of confidence. At my age, I rarely buy green bananas, let alone commit to 3 years of work. I have to really examine my life to see if I'm ready to commit those three years before I declare my "hat in the ring." |
