We wrapped up just a few minutes ago, and you have to be the first I tell (other than those in the closing meeting)

We made it! :biglaugh:

Two BSI auditors for two days reviewed our QMS and everything associated with it. There were so many more things that we had (have) ready that weren’t looked at, but of course, it would take two weeks, not two days.

Bottom line:
Non conformances = 0
Findings (of any nature) = 0
Opportunities for improvement = 3
Result: Recommended for Registration!

Yes! :D

THANKS TO YOU ALL FOR YOUR GREAT HELP :thanx:

I know that one successful audit an expert does not make, and I have a lot to learn. Nevertheless, I will continue to visit the forum, and share my experiences. I will continue to ask questions and raise issues, as I believe that we all, including the experts, can benefit from these.

I am headed home to get some rest –

Thanks again! :thanks:
Alex

Monday morning, we expect to see those three opportunities taken care of. :magic: With improvement, certificate on the door. Just kidding. Enjoy it.

Good job, Alex! Be sure to personally thank every person the auditors interviewed during their visit. Be sure to tell them that you are as proud of them as we are of you.

Seems to me the boss should spring for a pizza party or barbecue to celebrate!

Next on the agenda - that pesky concept of continual improvement!:D

Thank you, thank you...

The BSI auditors were GREAT. At the ‘end of the day’, as it turned out, everyone who had been audited had an enjoyable experience. I had heard rumors to this effect before the closing meeting, so I made a point of letting the BSI auditors know about it during the meeting. This morning, I sent them an e-mail thanking them, BSI, and the regional coordinator for assigning those auditors to do our assessment.

The opportunities for improvement were welcome with open arms. Actually, there were five, but two sets related to the same issue, which is why I initially thought there were only three. Of these five, we were already working on four of them and provided evidence of our intent. The fifth, which was new to us, addresses a key issue, and we are glad that it was brought up and are ready to embrace it.

The effort we put into this undertaking paid off, and although the auditors didn’t have time to look at every detail, they reviewed enough evidence to conclude that we were compliant. I have written a report covering the BSI report, the significant comments that were stated, and specific instances of the audit where our efforts came into play. I will post this report in our intranet for all the managers to read.

Although everything went well (actually, much better than expected) there were at least five instances when Mr. Murphy reared his ugly head and tried to trip us, but we foiled him every time. For example, when asked to show an example of a calibration card, one of the inspectors pulled one, at random, and it happened to be one that had written “N/C” right across it. “N/C” means No-Calibration, and is used only for instruments that need to be installed on the customers equipment before it is calibrated. Very rarely do we have one of these, but of course, that’s the one we grabbed. The inspector provided the appropriate explanation, and Murphy was foiled.

One hint and I will shut up:
While writing our procedures and supporting documentation, I made sure that every place of the Standard that said ‘shall’ was specifically addressed in a procedure, form, or instruction. And every place of the Standard that specified that a record be kept or provided, that we indeed had such records available and properly maintained. During the audit, these topics came up repeatedly and we were ready.

Thanks again!

Alex
