Varuna, Welcome to the Cove!!!

One place you might want to look is the ASQ (American Society for Quality) web site. Look for the Body of Knowledge for their certification programs. Even if you don't plan on getting certified, the body of knowledge for these certificates can serve as a guide for the types of things you should try to learn about.

If I am not mistaken, there is even a software certification...

Good luck!!

QA/QE is a pretty big field! :D I know that some colleges in North America offer programmes on Statistical Process Control, QA-specific issues like ISO 9001:2000, Auditing courses, etc. I don't know if programmes like that are offerred in India. Check it out to see if there are some. Or, perhaps, take some long-distance courses from a North American college - many are now offerring programmes online and allow you to work at your own pace.

Yes you are right. For the full package, check out the Master's program at SPSU in Marietta, GA. You have to be on campus a total of 2 Saturday mornings, for your final project. The rest is online, telephone, email, etc.

I don't know where Varuna is from India. No mention in the profile. If she is in one of the Major cities, I would strongly recommend taking a course from:
Indian Statistical Institute
http://www.isical.ac.in/~deanweb/
SQC courses from ISI have very solid Body of Knowledge.
Other Resources where she will be able to obtain QA/QE knowledge is through organizations like:
http://www.stqc.nic.in/
http://www.qaiindia.com/
http://www.qimpro.com/

Govind.
