What would be a sound and minimum skills/qualification for a Quality Control Engineer? The requirements usually published seem to be not very practical. :D

That varies a lot and highly depends on your employer (the type of buisness they do and their perception/understanding of quality).

However, a general guideline is the ASQ's Certified Quality Engineer's body of knowledge. I have attached an older version of it below.

If the "requirements usually published seem to be not very practical" - perhaps you are looking at old stuff if you are still using the term "control" in the search.

In general, my impression of a good Quality Engineer today is a person who has an excellent grounding in the techniques of gathering and calculating metrics on processes coupled with excellent common sense in knowing when to apply those techniques. The very best QEs have a great understanding of Design of Experiments techniques to aid in "continual improvement" efforts of the organization.

Since you are from Edmonton, Canada, I need to tell you an important information.You may know the term "Engineer" is a regulated title in Canada.
Unless you are a Professional Engineer, you will not be able to use the title.
