View Full Version : File Attachments - Searching - Attachments to Posts in the Forum
little__cee 14th October 2004, 02:11 PM When I try to search the attachments - I click on search and a menu drops down - there is a blank form with a "go" box next to it - underneath that are three options: Advanced Search (Forums Only), Search Entire Site, and Search Attachments.
I'm trying to search the attachments and must be doing something wrong. I type "root" or "root cause" in the box and if I were to click "go" it automatically searches the forums.
So I type "root" again and this time drop down and click "search attachments" -- I get the same result for all 2700+ attachments.
I cannot seem to make it search, at all! Is it broken or am I doing it wrong? I need help!!! Thanks!
Rachel 14th October 2004, 02:22 PM Little Cee,
I don't know if this will help, but...
...if you click on the "toggle" link in the right-hand corner of the attachments window (where you get all those results), it will let you narrow the list down - though I don't think by the parameters you want it to - I think it's only useful if you know the file name, extension, user that linked it, etc. But - might be a place to start?
Hope this helps -
-R.

little__cee 14th October 2004, 02:43 PM When I type *root* in the filename field of that toggle screen it gives me all of the files with the word root in their filename. That's what I was trying to do but couldn't make it happen.
Sorry for bothering you but thanks for helping me out!
Marc 3rd January 2006, 02:24 AM NOTICE 3 January 2006 - The Search hack for Post Attachments has not been updated for this version of vBulletin. Essentially now you have to go to the Post Attachments Listing (http://elsmar.com/Forums/fileslist.php) and scroll through the files alphabetically.
I will revise this thread if the Attachment Search hack is updated by its author
Howard Atkins 3rd January 2006, 03:44 AM The filter for forum name works so if you know the forum this reduces search time
The user name filter appears not to work
Claes Gefvenberg 3rd January 2006, 04:10 AM The user name filter appears not to workIt looks ok to me?

Marc 3rd January 2006, 04:47 AM Are we talking about the browser (Post Attachments Listing linked to above in post 5 and in the header graphic), or the 'old' Attachment Search at http://elsmar.com/Forums/attachment_browser.php ?
When I try to search the attachments - I click on Search in the Navbar (navigation Bar) and a menu drops down - there is a blank form with a "go" box next to it - underneath that are three options: Advanced Forum Search, Search Entire Site, and Search Attachments.Note: the "Search Attachments" option is gone from the Navbar Search dropdown because the 'attachment_browser.php' hack was for the 3.0.x vB version and does not work with this version.
The filter for forum name works so if you know the forum this reduces search time That is a sort function rather than a search function.
The user name filter appears not to workYou are correct. The user name sort function (not a filter) does not work. The Attachments Listing is an old hack as well which wasn't written for this version of vB.
Claes Gefvenberg 3rd January 2006, 08:47 AM You are correct. The user name sort function (not a filter) does not work.It appeared to work when I looked, but another check told me otherwise. I spoke to soon there.

Wes Bucey 3rd January 2006, 11:49 AM Simple comment and thank you:
The new Boolean search and ability to search on three-letter acronyms (spc, crm, edm, etc.) are extremely helpful.
little__cee 29th June 2006, 03:23 PM I want to search for information on 5S
The message appears that I need to search for a minimum of three characters
I tried "5S" hoping the quotes would count - no luck
any ideas for me to work the system and find posts or attachments dealing with 5S?

5s* works
little__cee 29th June 2006, 04:46 PM I feel stupid for not figuring that out but thank you. Maybe caffeine will help me - time for a Diet Coke!

Not stupid, just temporarily challenged. Happens to me all the time.:bonk:

It certainly can't hurt:agree1:
Jim Wynne 29th June 2006, 04:59 PM BTW, the reason that the quote marks didn't work is that they're not considered part of the search string, while the asterisk (wild card) is, because it represents part of what you're searching for.
